I got accepted to Johns Hopkins University and waitlisted from Stanford. I am going to accept my place in JHU, but if I get accepted from the Stanford waitlist, I'll be withdrawing my enrollment from JHU. JHU also gave me financial aid. I was wondering whether it's possible to withdraw my enrollment even if I accept all the financial aid awarded to my by Hopkins on the off-chance that I get into Stanford.

First of all accept the enrollment at JHU (especially if the financial aid works out for your family). If the financial aid does nto work out, make sure that you have an affordable option to attend in the fall.

On the off chance that you are accepted to Stanford off of the waitlist (since they had an ~ 3.5 admit rate in the RD round, it may be hard to get off of the waitlist),at that time you can withdraw your intent to enroll at JHU

Thanks for the reply! I got full financial aid according to my demonstrated need so that worked out perfectly. I was just apprehensive at the thought of accepting so much aid and then possibly rejecting it later if I got into Stanford.

Happens all of the time. Students get accepted off of waitlist sometimes as late as August (this why they call it summer melt). If you withdraw from JHU for Stanford, they will just call someone from their waitlist.

Ah that took a load off my back. Thanks again!
