I've heard JHU is really intense, do people actually have fun there? What's the average weekend like?

I can only tell you what my daughter found when she went for her official visit last September (she's an ED soccer player). There was lots of activity, and with Baltimore right there, it's easy to find weekend activities in the city as well. Many other schools are close by, and I know of some students from nearby Towson who have attended parties at JHU. DC and Philly are quick train rides away, and there's a skiing club that travels out to the Poconos many Wednesday nights during the ski season.
Is there more studying and less 'fun' than at other schools? Perhaps, but you'll find that when you compare most highly academic schools to other schools. If you are interested in having enough weekend activities, find the links to the student newspaper if possible. That's a good way to get the pulse of the campus. but any school in or near a major city will always have activities for students.

I think it's a hidden secret that students at JHU really do have a lot of fun. It's masked by the incredibly bright students there. I think people in general have a hard time pairing fun schools with exceptionally bright and diligent students but I think JHU is just that.

In fact, I think the best and the brightest often have the most fun - you can't be in the books all the time! Greek life, Lacrosse season, and city life all make Hopkins fun for everyone really.

This is truly one of the most frequently asked questions on CC ... do a bit of searching and you will find an endless array of posts that discuss the myths about social life at Hopkins. Since I don't care to search CC for those old posts ... I will provide you some links to the Hopkins Forums:
