Due to Bloomberg’s recording breaking massive $1.8Billion dollar donation, JHU will soon have the most competitive financial aid packages in the country for the foreseeable future.

It should get even more competitive to enter the freshman class soon. Given how competitive it is now (<10% acceptance rate, things might get crazier in a hurry)
Keep in mind that while other institutions have higher endowments, they are ear marked for things other than financial aid. With this giant donation, JHU joins an exclusive list of 5 schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst, MIT) as the only schools that are need blind and meet 100% of demonstrated financial aid in the country. Surprisingly none of the other ivies or Stanford fit this category.

These 5 are notable in that they extend need blind and meets full need to international students. If we restrict to US students, there are perhaps two dozen that meet this criteria.
@hebegebe While true, this is still an important distinction as internationals comprise a material part of each university’s freshman class. JHU was already part of the cohort that was need blind and meeting 100% of demonstrated need for US Citizens & Permanent residents prior to this gift.
What is more important about this development is the fact that JHU now has greater latitude in determining higher amounts of need. As we know, demonstrated need varies (sometimes greatly) depending on how rich an institution is.

Will JHU’s acceptance rate get a LOT lower for next year’s applicants? Because I’m thinking to apply to JHU next year (currently a junior).
