JHU or Duke

I was all set to pack my bags and move to NC but then today I received an email from dean of JHU about a new major in "global environmental change and sustainability". Earth and Planetary Sciences Home Page

I am premed with a major in an environmental science program. I have never heard of JHU bragging about going green the way Princeton does or presenting and publishing research on environmental change like Duke has at AAAS conferences.

Do you think JHU is just trying to follow the trends or is really beginning to develop a strong program in environmental leadership?

Thank you kindly...

JHU is ranked 3rd in the country for Environmental Engineering. It’s a huge part of JHU.

Also, there has been a huge student effort over the last 2 years on sustainability, climate change, energy policy etc - [Hopkins Energy Action Team](http://www.jhu.edu/heat/)

Thank you very much - this information helps a lot :D

It’s always a good idea to see which colleges practice what they preach.

It’s my impression that Yale, Stanford, and Duke are far and away the best for environmental science and policy. It’s good that Hopkins is reaffirming a niche in the field. The more the better. :)

^^ v. cool.
