JHU or Emory?

Just accepted to JHU off of the waitlist, already enrolled in Emory. I want to double major in Political Science and Business, which school is better for me?

JHU political science is top notch. I could not have gotten a better education anywhere else, nor formed as many relationships with professors. If academics is your focus in this decision, go with JHU.

Who’s to say they couldn’t get that here (I could literally say the same about my experience at Emory, just as some here and at JHU could probably say the opposite. Personal anecdotes don’t work)? I pretty much knew this would happen. Political science program here is pretty awesome as well. Also, they want to major in business (or have some connection with it). Y’alls is quite new, so it’s possible (or more than possible) that we may win in that category. Both schools have great academics and low enough student-faculty ratios to establish relationships with professors. I, even as a chem/bio double major here, have managed to do so to an extremely high degree (Emory’s emphasis on teaching in the sciences seems to help make this possible). These are not criteria good enough to proclaim that one school is better off than another (just as rank or prestige isn’t, as they have nothing to do with quality education. If it did, many public schools would rank higher, and so would some less known private researchUs. William and Mary is one example I like for the former).
The person should just go to the campus they like. There won’t be too much of a difference unless they intentionally choose bad professors or something. Admittedly, outside of education, JHU has an advantage because of its location closer to DC, but w/that said there are many of things to do w/regard to politics and business in Atlanta (though we clearly lose on the politics side b/c Maryland/Virginia/DC rule at the federal level).

JHU for just political science. Emory for political science and business.

A parent question: Is the cost the same?

yeah robert: That is a good question lol. The fact that they seemed willing to suddenly consider JHU after acceptance despite already enrolling here is strange. Maybe we cost to much, in which case they should go to JHU if they cost less.

Prices are the same for both, I was only conflicted because I was accepted off of the JHU waitlist just this week.

Well, we can’t decide for you. Choose the one you like better for what you wanna do (and fit of course). The fact that you jumped to consider JHU even after being enrolled here kind of indicates you may really want to be there, but I can’t be sure (you haven’t provided enough info. on what made you enroll or apply to Emory). I mean, think about it. If you had got into JHU and Emory pulled you off the waitlist, would you reconsider? I’m betting that I should doubt that’s the case (seriously, who would consider going to the underdog school?). Deciding to stay w/Emory depends on how serious you are about the business courses. If serious, here, if you can live w/o, JHU.

I am actually more dedicated to pursue a major in business than in political science. I was mostly concerned about job opportunities after college. To answer your question, yes I would give the same consideration to Emory if the scripts were flipped. College is an important decision and all options must be analized. I am not asking the College Confidential community to choose for me, I am more than capable of making decisions for myself. I only wanted advice on the situation. With that said, thank you to everyone for your advice and I have made my decision.

Can you tell us what you decided?

I chose Emory!
