Hmmm, I got into JHU and I want to be a math major and maybe a spanish minor and then I want to go on to med school. But I also got into Harvard, Columbia, Northwestern, Williams, Pomona, and WashU. At this point I have narrowed my list down to Columbia, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Northwestern. So, what do you guys think? Should I choose JHU over the Ivy League?

With those schools, you really can't go wrong. If possible, try to visit the campuses and get a feel for life on campus before you make a decision based on your impressions of the schools and your financial situtation.

well, basically i don't have time to visit them all, and money really isn't a factor (they all cost around the same amount and i'm not getting any aid at any of them).

your choice... but it's always been my impression that the Ivies (except Cornell) are stronger in the humanities and JHU seems like a much stronger science school.. but like tanman said... with those choices, you really cannot make a bad decision. best of luck =)

harvard......

choose Harvard unless the financial aid does not work out.. JHU is not a bad 2nd option :).. but neither are any of your schools.

Harvard for sure as it has better math than others.

Where can you see yourself for four years? Baltimore, Boston, New York, or Chicago?

Which students do you think you will mesh with best?

Which school will provide you the most opportunities as an undergraduate?

What size school are you looking for? Big fish in a small pond, or small fish in a big pond?

Lucky you that you have four top schools to choose from.
Good luck.

thanks so much, admissionsdaniel. those are definitely questions i will evaluate.

did you make your choice yet?

not yet... but i have to decide pretty soon. May 1 is approaching.

The math department at Hopkins is not particularly strong. Harvard is Harvard, go there.

with harvard you cant go wrong

Harvard IS Harvard but please read here before deciding http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/03/29/student_life_at_harvard_lags_peer_schools_poll_finds/
and from the Harvard Crimson itself http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=506807

harvard u dingbat. if you want to brand and chance to get it then do it. only for eng u should consider MIT, UCB or Stanford.

I've heard some bad things about JHU. I heard that JHU is even more focused on research than Ivies, and that without grade inflation, it is much more cutthroat. I've also heard that Baltimore isn't exactly the best place for a college campus. Not to put JHU down, but I'd go with Harvard.

just visit and go wherever u like the most

When I visited JHU a lot of people confessed to being Ivy league rejects. Obviously, there are no Ivy League rejects at Harvard.

Harvard of course, you're lucky!!!! Are you a super genious or an athlete?

um, i am not an athlete at all. (wow, i am the least athletically-inclined person ever). and i am not a supergenius. i didn't study for the ACT/SAT, i didn't get all 800s, i didn't do world-renowed research, and i don't have flawless grades (although my grades are as good as i could manage), my ECs are concentrated and numerous (mostly band related things- marching band, pep band, tri-m music society- and community service) but yeah, i am proof that average kids (and i mean average as in your average overachieving AP student) can get into great schools.
