So many admissions reps. seem to slip around the whole ACT vs. SAT thing, I thought I could get at least the straight up JHU answer here. If my ACT is better than my SAT (which it is) will they use that number(s) and look past or through the SAT score? I can't seem to shake the feeling that they will regard my SAT with more weight than my ACT, which seems silly since I believe they take the best SAT score when you sit more than once and I believe they don't hold it against you if you just have just an ACT without a SAT score.
Thoughts anybody?

my uncle is an admissions counselor for UMiami and he said SATs>ACT.....but then again, JHU and Miami are completely different. lol

insider information -just what I was looking for but not the answer I wanted, 2120 SAT and 34 ACT, 790 Physics, 790 World His, 800 mathII. 730 MathI and 730 Bio. Oh well, I still can hope for another month! Thanks for your quick response - must be nice to have an uncle in the know - hope he was able to give you some good direction.

Your scores are great. I think your other aspects will have more of an impact than the difference between SAT's and ACT's. Even Hopkins isn't just numbers based. Waiting for a decision is so difficult! As a parent is was just as painful to watch my kids go through it because there's nothing you can do focus on doing until you hear. Good luck!

^ thank you, at this point in the game nerves are getting the best of me, I believe the rest of my application was strong. Just wondered how much hinged on the so so SATs. Hope your kids ended up in the "right" school for them. Am trying to decipher your username - all I am taking away is New Jersey... hmmmmmm.....

Both Swarthmore and Hopkins are in the Centennial Conference. My daughter was accepted ED to Hopkins. There's lots of kids from NJ there. Her last two weeks before December 15 were debilatating for all of us! She fretted about every word of every essay and every score of every standardized test. So did my son, but he wasn't as vocal about it. It all works out! Good luck.

centennial conference - never would have guessed. My dad's from Jersey I'm in Mass. - will he ever stop talking about the Jersey tomatoes?? ED at Hopkins - nice!
Best

The Johns Hopkins policy is pretty simple. We review both the SAT and ACT the same way and we have absolutely no preference between the two exams. Which ever score is higher is what we use in reporting a student's highest standardized exam score.

Do know thought that Admissions counselors do not ignore any information in an applicant's file. If your ACT score is higher than we will focus on that, but we will not "close our eyes" to one's SAT scores. And vice versa.

thank you 10 char

Even if they did look at the SAT, it wouldn't hurt you that much. A 2120 is pretty average for Hopkins.
