JHU Undergrad Engineering vs. Canadian Universities.

Reposted from the JHU thread to see if I can garner more response... Sorry for the double post:

Hi everyone!

I'm a Canadian student accepted for the JHU Class of 2013, hoping to study mechanical engineering. I was wondering, on a national/global scale, if Whiting had a good reputation for undergraduate engineering. I am deeply interested in doing undergraduate research, as I have done so in my high school years (competed at ISEF twice) and really enjoyed it.

On the other hand, I have the option of studying at the top Canadian engineering schools (UToronto, Waterloo, Queen's), so I was wondering if it would be worth travelling to the US to study at JHU instead of just staying in my own country. In the long run, I want to get into a US grad school.

I'd appreciate your input!

Thank you.

If you want to get into a US grad school, JHU will have better name recognition.

Oh yeah, Whiting School of Engineering’s undergraduate program is ranked 14th alongside Northwestern and Princeton according to US News report.

Hopkins does a lot of research too (top university in US in terms of research & development spending), so opportunities are plentiful to continue research with professors who are renown experts in their field.

I’d vote for JHU over the CA schools on its own merit, but if you’re aiming for grad school in the US, then doubly so.

I say JHU too especially if you wanna go to grad school. I don’t think Queen’s has much of a rep outside of Canada…

JHU for sure. no contest, unless you want to work in Canada, and even then, JHU might have a stronger name there. lol
