I'm deciding between brown and jhu and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which is a better program. I'm slightly worried about the grade deflation at Hopkins, but I know it has a good reputation when it comes to being a pre-med student. I also want to study psychology. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Brown should give you a higher GPA since I believe the average GPA is fairly high, compared with JHU which is known for grade deflation.

As well, JHU may be more competitive.

I know you’ve seen this OP but I’m going to post it again because other people will undoubtedly stumble across this thread who might not see the other: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1284648-brown-best-place-pre-med.html?highlight=brown+is+the+best+place+for+pre+med

For many premeds who choose a “not so hardcore” major (like psychology instead of BME/biochem), Brown would be better, IMHO.

DS once mentioned psychology is actually a pretty good major for a premed. I do not know the reason as he did not elaborate. (My guess: more flexible time for EC?)

BTW, I think what you have learned in college/major would not be that useful anyway in med school once you get into med school. It is only your study skills polished over the years that are useful.

In general, any Ivy (except Princeton and Cornell) would be better, from a grade deflation perspective, compared to JHU. However psychology is not that bad, from what I hear, at JHU.

^The earnestness with which you direct folks to read the sticky threads, reminds me of a conundrum we face at work. The support people in our department hassle the programmers to document every thing, only to ignore all of it and hassle them again with phone calls. I wish we had somebody like you, steadfastly directing them to read the documentation first :D

I recently made it my goal to write as little novel material as possible on here. I feel like I have reached the point where no one is asking a question I haven’t answered before.

Also, brown was just named #1 for combination of hot, smart students. Another reason we’re the best.
