JHU vs GW for IR

I got accepted to JHU and GW Elliot school. Where should I go?
Any suggestions, reasons?

Bump…someone please respond?

OK - here’s my comments. Although GW probably more than JHU, if costs are NOT considered - I’d say GW for IA undergrad and JHU for IA GRAD school.

At JHU as an undergrad you’re on Homewood Campus (Baltimore) and it’s very hard to take courses at their DC Nitze School of International Affairs (SAIS) - which is JHU’s Grad school in IA’s - and excellent!

JHU is far more prestigious then GWU. I was accepted into Elliot 4 years ago with a full ride when I applied to school and when I went to visit I was extremely turned off. They did not focus at academics at all and the kids I met talked more about partying that any real academics. I instead went to JHU and even though its not in DC, you can still take classes and the people at the homewood campus poly sci department are some of the best in their field. Also at JHU you can do a 5 year ba/ma in IR.

Agree with BluJayBJ - However, note that the combined BA/MA PoliSci program at JHU Undergrad (Homewood Campus) and SAIS in DC is extremely competetive and only 8 students are taken per year.

Visit both–and the differences will be readily apparent. GW is a fine school, but the only reason I can think of to choose it over JHU is if GW was offering substantially more financial aid.

And yes, the BA/MA program only admits @ 8 students/year, but the 4 year undergraduate program is international studies is outstanding.

I think that the environment is the issue. I’ve known kids who have loved the city campus and DC setting of GW and feel that is what they want. Homewood is a beautiful, traditional campus and is more the typical college setting. Both schools are outstanding, so really you are not losing out whatever you choose, in that regard. It’s what setting you prefer, Remember, it s home for you for the next 4 years, most likely.
