Hey all! I am having the hardest decision between these three schools. I am looking to major in engineering and then possibly go to a top graduate business school. I am a very social kid and am receiving mixed messages about the social lives at Tufts and JHU.

For engineering, Michigan > JHU > Tufts. All are good schools, but unless you have some significant reason to prefer Tufts I think one of the others would make more sense.

The OP wants to go to business school. Top business schools want students to work 2-5 years after they graduate before they apply to B-school. Most students, including engineers, who venture for this career path opt to go to Wall Street or in finance. Tufts is well regarded in this respect with recruitment from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan (whose CEO is a Tufts alum), Deutsche Bank, DE Shaw, etc. And this isn’t just for like “operations” it’s for things such as Investment Banking.

But Tufts is unique in that it has engineering with an entrepreneurial emphasis–e.g., using engineering to change the world. In this respect, it allows students, and specifically engineers, to use engineering for business ventures (and there is a huge emphasis and promotion of this on the undergraduate level).

I say visit the schools and find out what you like best. Best of luck!

What engineering major are you interested in?
Many business-oriented engineering undergrads do industrial engineering. I don’t know about Mich and JHU, but Tufts doesn’t offer this major. (As noted, though, it does offer the Gordon Institute programs for engineers who are business-oriented.)
