Okay. I like Hopkins. I got into BME, which is cool. I don't mind Baltimore too much; heck, I actually like it because I just like being in a city. Hopkins is a great school, and I like it.

Bad news: I got no aid. And I got a full ride at the University of Maryland College Park, which, coupled with a state scholarship, will mean I get paid to go to college. Gemstone/Honors seems cool too, and if I get paid to do it, well, that's kind of an awesome concept.

The thing is, if both were free (or if money were of no consequence, which it is in this case... I'm not rich), I would pick Hopkins. So... any advice? Input? Anything at all? It would be much appreciated!!

I'm running out of time, and as my name suggests, I'm having trouble picking. Help?

Totally didn't catch this blog entry. Yeah it's helpful, thank you for pointing it out!

So after reading it, my situation is this: I think (being tentative here) that Hopkins is the better fit. I like the location better, I like BME, I like the campus and research opportunities (if I can get 'em) are cool. It's just that I can see myself at Maryland too - maybe not quite the same as Hopkins, but still as a happy student with great opportunities, if not the same ones.

yo I just chose my full ride at Rutgers Honors Program over Hopkins.

I got no aid at Hopkins and even though Money is not THAT BIG of an issue for me, I just think that spending 200K for undergrad is not worth it. GO to med school at Hopkins, get a better GPA at Maryland and dude get paid to go to college....you'll be able to afford cooler things like a new car or a plasma screen tv. In the long run, you'll be a lot more happier (I think) if you go to MAryland, be at the top of your class and go to a great professional school--- save your money for another day.

It took me a while to reach this decision, but it is final. I sent my deposit in just 2 days ago for Rutgers. Peace

I also thought about the statement "was a high school a waste of time because I ended up at a state school?"...but in the end, you have to be mature and think about your circumstances and wisely make a decision about your future.

Dude, Maryland. That is the biggest no brainer ever. JHU is a great school, but if you would have to borrow and stuff, it's just not worth it. NOW, if you have loaded rents who own a casino or something, go JHU.

Like merudh, I am unfortunately going to turn down JHU. I really liked it -- but I just got a reply back from the financial aid office after sending in an appeal, and... yeah. Nada. Maybe Hopkins for grad school or something -- but for now, Maryland Honors it is.

I turned down UMCP's full ride for Hopkins.... But UMCP is a great school too, I would be happy to go there (on full ride plus extra $$ from a state scholarship - why not?) had I not have a great financial offer from Hopkins. Ah - and I can graduate in less than two and a half years if I go to UMCP. Hmm...

I'm still leaning towards College Park, but I will officially know in less than 24 hours. If I go to College Park, I will be very reluctantly giving up Hopkins.

merudh: Definitely. See you there after we graduate summa cum laude and ace our MCATs haha. But seriously, good luck at Rutgers. I know you'll succeed, and hopefully I will too, which will probably be at College Park.

I also rejected JHU for Olin (full tuition if you are accepted, vs. 200K).
Aid was an issue, but I had told myself I could handle the loans pretty well... but Olin is such a great school that I couldn't bring myself to pay the 200K for JHU. I wasn't even sure about med school, and I didn't want to be peer-pressured into it.. so a lot of my decision was placed on my personal preferences.. Nonetheless, 200K is such a huge amount of money. Talk it over a bit.. If you love the programs and people at Maryland, go for it. If you're going to be miserable there and regret not going to JHU, see if you can mitigate the costs a bit.

good luck man...man I'm already pumped for Rutgers and the possibiliteis of having such an awesome dorm next year because of the Honors Program just keep getting better.

hgahah summa cum laude...hell yeah. lol...Im gonna hate the MCATs as much as I hated them SATs. damn
