I'm still shaking and weeping and hardening inside. I have Barnard, Emory and University of Michigan under my belt so far. And today I got waitlisted at Tufts and Hopkins (where I have wanted to go since sophomore year). So what does being waitlisted say about my chances at Cornell, Columbia, and Dartmouth tommorrow?

Anyone, please weep with me :((((((((

I’ll weep with you! I, too, was waitlisted at Hopkins today, and I’m not feeling so great about my Prinecton and Yale decisions tomorrow because of it. :(

Don’t be too upset. JHU was my first choice and I was rejected. Applied ED as well, got deferred and now rejected. It’ll be fine, there are other great schools out there too.

It’s ok. Lots of people got waitlisted by Johns Hopkins this year. Maybe you can post your stats here to help us figure out why you might not have gotten a solid acceptance. Also, you have more colleges “under your belt” than you were rejected/waitlisted from. Two friends from my school got waitlisted by Emory!!

Don’t worry too much about what it means for the Ivies. The college admission process is to some extent a matter of luck because many schools (Hopkins included, I’m sure) could fill their freshman class a few times over with qualified applicants. Keep in mind two things 1) each college makes their decisions independent of each other so a rejection/waitlist at one does not mean anything for any other school and 2) colleges are also probably looking for “fit.” Perhaps, they didn’t think you would be a good fit for the school and you may ultimately end up at a school you love more than you ever thought. Good luck! Stay positive for the next 17 hours until decisions come out! You’re not out til it’s all said and done!

^^Thank you all! Its the fear that I’ll get rejected from Dartmouth as well thats the killer.

Yeah I got into UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Vanderbilt so far. I’m hoping for some good news tomorrow. Good luck to you too.

I got accepted today, and it was an utter surprise! lol
I was super happy though!
But I hear from Columbia tomorrow as well… Idk though, I don’t expect to get accepted there either but maybe I will!

Yea, your acceptance made KSM feel loadss better.

Oh, do not worry. I am weeping right along with you, KSM. I think I have used up a whole box of tissues! Well, I am in the same boat as An0nmity (deferred ED then flat out REJECTED)…not even waitlisted. Consider me jealous of your status. I would do anything to be AT LEAST on the waitlist. Because maybe it might give me the notion that I was somewhat a worthy applicant.

Please don’t take your waitlist as a rejection, because as a waitlist, at least you know you were good enough to make it into JHU had there been more spots in for the freshman class. Even if you don’t make it to JHU in May, you will, without a doubt STILL DO GREAT THINGS. Emory, U Mich, and Barnard are AMAZING schools and you should be proud of your accomplishments. :)

wow…I really should listen to myself sometimes :(

It’s completely ok! I didn’t expect to get in at all…I thought I might have a slight chance but I really didn’t think so. I’m glad that I did though because it proves that you don’t have to have SUPER high scores lol I only had a 28 ACT, that’s the only scores I submitted
I had two 28’s: 1st Time- Math:31 English: 30 Reading: 28 Science: 24
2nd Time-Math: 30 English: 30 Reading: 21 Science: 30
I’m 3rd in a class of 213, which isn’t super spectacular since there are people 1st in classes of over like 500 and such!
But I have a lottt of accomplishments which I assume is the reason I got an acceptance!
I had my mind set on Texas A&M, my back up school. Now, I really don’t know! haha
both of the aid packages were pretty good!
Assuming I get enough outside scholarships that I applied to, JHU might be an awesome option now!
I’m excited! But don’t be upset…I got rejected from my first choice. ED Rice University…
There are still great schools out there that would love to have you! :)

I was also wait-listed (yeah, I know it looks shady because I just joined).

So it’s definitely not all about the numbers. Congratulations to DillonJay!!

No worries. I was ultimately waitlisted by both WashU and Duke, but was accepted to Stanford so you never know! : D

I got 6 rejections and only 1 acceptance from my safety before i got into jhu. I guess I was in a worse mood than you are waiting for the decisions to come up because I didn’t even hope to get an acceptance. Try not to find connections between decisions of one college to another. There is something unique every school looks for in a candidate and the fact that what 6 schools looked for was not me doesn’t make a difference for JHU. and if the other school doesn’t work either, just think it was for the best. maybe that college wasn’t the right thing for you and somehow you will end up where you wanna be. ( at least thats what I used to tell myself ) :))))

I think Hopkins did me a favor (waitlisted). It was my first taste of REJECTION and now I am prepared for what’s coming today … :(

JHU is out? I have not received any email…

for denied applicants–

Rejection has nothing to do with you not being good enough for JHU, or any school for that matter. So I know it’s hard but get that thought out of your head because it’s simply not true! You will make the best of wherever you end up, so no worries. I have a friend who got into JHU but rejected from a state schools…so you can’t judge a decision from one college based on another. I was rejected from an Ivy and was devastated. Now I can’t see myself anywhere else but JHU…and you’ll find the same, wherever you end up.

ALL IS WELL! =]

DillonJay…I don’t think you getting accepted makes her or any of ED defers then rejections feel any better. Congrats on your acceptance though lol.

My advice is actively pursue the WL at the schools you want to attend, don’t regret it if they open up spots. good luck!
