Jhucty ?

just wondering .. does JHU favor them CTY students more? like do they have a better chance of being accepted?

The short answer is no, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Many Hopkins’ students and alumni are former CTYers.

I’ve answered this question before.

AdmissionDaniel, does JHU see CTY as a way to raise the profile of JHU with smart students? I know my D, who uses the CTY Cogito website, is itching to visit JHU now that her college visits are starting. I think she associates super smart people with JHU  I have wondered if that is one of the reasons that JHU runs the CTY program. I expect the program might bring in some profit, but I wonder if the marketing side is actually a bigger part of it.

JHU’s CTY program was established in 1979 as an opportunity to provide resources to students with exceptionally high academic abilities. Over its 30+ years of existence it has expanded its offerings and its reach. Since I was not working at JHU when CTY was established I really can’t speak on the reasons to create such a program. As well, CTY is run as a separate organization nowadays and therefore I think the direction connections between CTY and recruitment practices of the Undergraduate Admissions office are minimal. Yes we do some outreach to CTY participants but it is not an established link that CTY acts as a recruitment branch of the undergraduate schools.

With that said, yes CTY is an excellent marketing branch for JHU’s undergraduate programs. But CTY is much more a separate academic organization than a marketing program. (And of course it is a revenue maker for the University as well.)
