I dont think JJ is a good choice for the summer. Try to get another dorm. They are all singles and the doors close shut and it is not very social over the summer because you dont know who is in which room. Try to get a suite

what do you mean by "summer"?

You wrote about the lack of airconditioning in the summer so I thought for some reason you were starting in the summer.

Nerdy? No, it's just all singles and has less space for communal interaction than floors in Carman, so it tends to be calmer.

noone starts in the summer...the only times the lack of AC is a prob is for the first couple wks of the semester and the last couple other than that it shouldnt be a problem that opening the window cant fix

I went to the high school summer program and stayed in JJ and I would definitely not live there if given the choice. All those who stayed in the dorms with suites found it easier to meet peoploe. JJ was very isolating. Of course it was the summer so it is different, but there were no studnets hanging out in each others rooms. No one knew who were in those rooms. They were all singles and the doors just shut closed when you went in. Those who were in suites had a different social experience there. Because they had suitemates they met them, and then as a group they met others. I guess it is just a personal preference. I am sure that it is different when school is in session.

collegebound:

its much different. no matter if you are in a suite or single, you will always meet your floormates in the first few days. these people then tend to become your best friends (there's 40 to pick from after all, you'll always find a couple)

and as far as AC goes, its not needed. i brought a fan with me cuz i've spent summers in dorms (at Carnegie Mellon) with no AC and it was needed then but there wasnt one single time i pulled it out this year.

even now, in april, its not needed yet (it was snowing this morning)
