I'm a freshman at JMU Engineering, and knowing that JMU isn't well known for engineering I'm thinking about changing over to Accounting major which was my back up major when I came here. I just want to be sure of the process, is it true that COB in JMU require 10 class of COB classes for freshman and sophomore year? I'm looking it up ,but not sure about it. Would I be 1 year behind if I switch my major next semester?

I was trying to send the link, but I don’t know how. Look up the acct major, and look at the COB core classes. they are required for any COB major. Don’t fret though, if it’s what you want to do, go see a COB advisor, or your advisor, or go see someone in CAP. They can help you plan your courses. You still have 3 semesters, and a summer, to get the 10 classes done. You can also take some, at your CC over the summer if you have to.Make sure the CC classes are able to be transferred in to JMU. Some kids do take the harder COB core classes at their CC to be able to maintain a 2.8 GPA, to get into the major, like Calc and Micro(we learned this the hard way) You can send me a private message if you need more help. good luck!

Here is a link to the catalog –

As ddotjon says, you still have time to take the COB before the junior year formal application. Go to the COB Academic Services Center, they will be able to help you get on track.
I am a student looking to transfer to JMU and am interested in majoring in Accounting. I noticed under the special admission requirments in the undergraduate catalog that you need to take an assessment exam. Can anyone tell me anything about it? What’s the format? Level of difficulty? Anything would be helpful. Thanks.
