Something to keep in mind…EA decisions come out mid-January, two months before RD decisions. A freshman student’s “room selection timeslot” is determined by how early the student pays their enrollment deposit. The earlier you pay, the earlier your room selection timeslot will be. If JMU is your top choice it is beneficial to pay your deposit quickly so you have more room options to choose from when it comes time to pick your freshman dorm.
Hi everyone. We toured JMU and loved the campus and the facilities all looked new and well maintained. The students we met all seemed genuinely happy too which we liked.
Does anyone know specifically what they may offer a pretty good OOS student with good grades? 1530 SAT (not a super score), 3.7 UW, 9 AP and 9 Honors classes, decent EC but he hasn’t saved the world (yet). We’re in NY by the way. He wants to go down a medical route so keeping cost down these 4 years is very important. He’s applied to the our NY State Schools (Stony Brook and Binghamton) but we’d love for him to experience a nice out of state college experience.
JMU is known for giving its scholarships to in-state students primarily. That being said, their major fundraising campaign for the last year has been focused on raising money for scholarships. Much like other schools, I believe they’re trying to more frequently bridge the gap between their OOS student’s tuition and a candidate’s in-state flagship.
Hi all! Took my son to JMU’s open house a few weeks ago and it was a great visit. Met with the biochemestry students and staff. What intrigued him the most was the diversity among the students and faculty in addition to the awesome facilities for the major. Huge campus but does have a bus. He did put in his application for EA a few weeks ago so he’s anxiously waiting as my wife and I are too. Also visited VT prior (Good visit as well). Ten schools total he has applied to so far. Good luck to all!
I think VT’s campus is very nice as well. The Hokie stone buildings give a similar feel as the bluestone buildings at JMU. For the size of VT I found the campus very walkable, and it’s laid out well. I also liked the little downtown area right off of campus. The downside was how much farther down I81 it was from JMU. Coming from the Northeast, that extra time would be a killer.
Admissions says mid-January for decisions, but they have released earlier in the past. I’d expect your student would receive a decision on, or before Friday, the 14th of January.
Did anyone hear anything more about the decision release date coming earlier than mid-January? The wait is a killer - JMU is D’s first choice. All of the other acceptances have arrived well ahead of the original release date. Hoping JMU is the same.
