Anyone here have recent experience with JMU’s engineering program? I’ve read everything I can find (other threads here, practically every word on the school’s website and blog, etc.) but am still a little confused about what kinds of jobs their graduates qualify for.

I know the first graduates did well in terms of placements but I’d also guess they had an unusual amount of help.

I’m sure these folks must be marketable. JMU is a great school and they wouldn’t offer a program that led to a dead end.

Anyone?

I have heard that JMU engineers mostly end up being hired into systems engineering, environmental engineering if or materials engineering/management if they’re hired right out of undergrad. Some go on to get a masters in engineering and focus on one type at that level. You should send an e-mail to some professors in the engineering department and ask them. Their names and contact info are listed on the JMU ISAT or engineering websites. People at JMU are extremely responsive, so I’m sure they’d gladly get back to you with an answer. One thing for sure – you would get a lot of attention in their program.

I do know they just received accreditation in September for the engineering program. My daughter was also accepted and we are waiting for honors info before we decide between JMU and vt. JMU has not been very efficient however in communication. It’s the only school we have not heard from regarding honors, financials and scholarships.
