New thread for anyone who applied for fall 2011 transfer!

currently a sophomore. instate- small liberal arts school.
College GPA: 3.4
HS GPA: 3.5
SATs: 1950

So far, I took 2 semesters of english, 2 semesters of science w/ lab, 1 semester of math, and all the other classes include, political sci, economics, sociology, music, religion...

i have a good amount of activities and service hours; also in 2 leadership position
I've never applied to JMU so I really have no idea what they look for.

Thank you so much charliet!
My hopes are definitely up, but it’s always good to hear encouragements
I’ve been super discouraged because I applied to UVA and W&M as a freshman last year with a 3.8 and got waitlisted =x

Did you not end up going because of financial stuff? Will you be going fall 2011?

Im guessing its probably because you were applying as a freshman, but I don’t know how well you did in high school. I was advised to apply as a sophomore because my grades in high school were not that great.

Yeah i ended up not going because of financial constraints, but I will be enrolling Fall 2011.

Yeah, I guess applying as a sophomore does give you an advantage.
I applied as communications studies. Hopefully it’s not too competitive!

When did you find out last year?
The application is due March 1, but I turned everything in this past week and I got a confirmation email saying they got everything.

I heard that the business department was the most competitive, which got me a little nervous last year since I was applying there. I don’t know about communications but you are competitive regardless.

Looking through my posts from last year, I got the acceptance letter on April 8th but it varies slightly depending on where you live.

I guess that’s the reality of transferring… everything is competitive.

this 2-3 month wait gonna kill me!

From any thread you were active with last year as a jmu fall 2010 transfer, do you remember any sophomore transfers from a 4-year univ. who were waitlisted/rejected? What was their stats like?

The waiting is never good. You start doubting and wondering what you could have done better on the application. I think you will hear back in one and a half months during the first week of April.

I think there was a kid from VCU who got waitlisted with a 3.8 GPA, but he was a freshman transfer applicant.

Thanks for all the help charliet!
That VCU kid could have been me last year if i applied haha. different school, but same GPA and freshman applicant.
I don’t know if I’m being dangerously confident, but I feel like JMU really likes sophomores better than freshman transfers reading past blogs and hearing you from you so I may have a good chance even with a 3.4!

I sure hope so because this school is…kinda like my safety transfer (?) haha.
Im also applying to vtech which is my first time and UVA, my 3rd time…holy crap.
UVA I’m not really expecting to get in considering I got waitlisted last year with a 3.8 but tech maybe maybe (?)

junior transfer from CC, will graduate with an AA and an AS.
GPA - 3.6
HS GPA - 3.0
SAT - 2000

ECs - Officer in 2 clubs, founding member of 2 others, and a member of one more. I also work part-time and have been at my job for almost two years. I received the “Whos Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges” Honor in January.

seems as if your stats are pretty solid!! goodluck!!
do you have that agreement with madison?
I’m not too familiar with how cc’s work with their guaranteed admission but i assumed it was ‘guaranteed’ if you take the certain courses + have a set gpa…? i might be completely wrong haha

but i was just confused because i’ve been seeing CC people freak out everywhere thinking they won’t get accepted when they have a binding agreement…

I didn’t use guaranteed admissions at JMU, but I do qualify for it. The reason is they require you to sign a Letter of Intent (to enroll), and JMU is not my first choice. I’m actually using guaranteed admission for UVA, so unless something happens, that’s where I’ll be.

so apparently they’re sending out emails/letters on april 1st??
thats what i heard from others who also applied.
im.so.anxious!!
reading back on this blog makes me feel better, but i dont even know where all my confidence came from. i feel a waitlist coming my way =x

seriously…
& plus this thread is just like us 2. last year’s transfer thread seemed pretty active haha
hopefully we get our email regarding decisions within the next couple days !
