I applied to my first choice (WM) early decision and was deferred, so I was wondering what my chances were in this next round of applicants and my other top choices. I am an in-state resident of VA. Also, a key aspect of my transcript is that I have moved through three different states in the past few years, so that affected my whole high school career. I have an alumni recommendation for WM and great recs for other schools. My personal essay is pretty good and has been read by my english teacher, peers, college students, and a relative who is an english professor. I also am sending in an art supplement to each school and doing every supplement possible. In my common app I wrote two extra essays explaining how moving affected my schoolwork and how I struggle with standardized tests, but am working hard to improve. My general question is for my chance of getting into WM, but also the other schools. For WM I have an interview on file, continued letter of interest, and communication with my area director of admissions. And also, what else could I do? Thank you.

@skibbles4 - I’m surprised that you weren’t denied at William and Mary, and I think your deferral will end up in that result though obviously you still have a shot. Your ACT and SAT scores are low for that school (below the 25% mark).

JMU - match
GMU - match
UVA - reach (and I think you will be denied)
VCU - match

How does your school do weighting? at my high school if you took that many APs and had a 4.0 unweighted you would most likely have a 4.8 weighted or something like that. You aren’t in too bad a position but the acceptance rate from deferrals at the College is very low although you still stand a chance! The SAT isn’t that good of preview as to how intelligent you are so don’t worry about that. My SAT scores weren’t completely in the middle 50 for W&M or UVA and I was accepted to both so don’t fret. You should be fine with GMU and VCU and I’m guessing good with JMU. UVA and w&m maybe. Most students are accepted to one or the other but only the top are typically accepted to both. best of luck!
