Hi, I am a mother looking into JMU for my son.

I have posted about other concerns and had an amazing feedback, so here i am again :)

Where do most of JMU's top graduates students end up working? anyway i could do my own research as well?

As i said in other threads, thankfully, my son is an excellent student so hopefully he'll keep it up in college as well. So we were wondering what are the working opportunities JMU graduates have in general after college.

Thank you! :) (i'm loving CC!!)

Thank you!

Anyone has any comments from personal life experience not official info?

A lot of kids from our area find happiness at JMU. Kids love it and seem to do well with internship opportunities, especially in the Washington area. I have several former students that interned in the business fields as well as the health sciences. You would be hard pressed to find a JMU grad that didn’t enjoy their years there. It does have a rep as being a party school, but the students seem to be able to balance the fun with the academics enough to do well come graduation time. Good luck to your son!

I see you’ve posted over in the JMU forum; you may get more information there from others more actively engaged with JMU regarding your follow up questions. I do know that JMU regularly hosts career fairs; I seem to recall your son was interested in business. A quick search gave me the following link to a recruitment fair being held on campus. A quick scan of the page shows several big names recruiting at JMU. You could do a similar search for your son’s particular area of interest to see who recruits at JMU.

I think it depends upon where your son ultimately wants to find a job. JMU has more of a regional, as opposed to a national, reputation. As noted in my response to your other post, most JMU students are from VA and the large majority of OOS students are from MD, NJ, PA and NY and these are the areas where JMU alums likely end up finding jobs. The Business school has a map, here, of where their alumni are now.
From this chart you can observe that about 57% of JMU alums live in VA and about 75% live in the combined states of VA, MD, DC, PA, NJ, NY.

you might also want to consider some of the schools mentioned in this article which lists the top 25 universities in the US ranked by recruiters <a href=“Best Colleges & Universities - Ranked by Job Recruiters - WSJ”>Best Colleges & Universities - Ranked by Job Recruiters - WSJ;

Thank you all guys!!

how would i run such a search? I’d like to see a few careers. He wants to do business as of now, but you know… he might want to change along the way.

thanks!

It might help for you to contact someone at JMU directly perhaps the career center can answer some of these questions for you.

I suspect that the employment prospects for JMU grads remain largely regional whether the major is business or nonbusiness.

At this point in your college search, I would recommend keeping more options open and looking for more “match” schools. Large public flagship universities usually offer the most robust opportunities for recruiters and thus students have easy access to many employers via career fairs and such.
