FAQ…

“Is it possible audition for both the Musical Theatre Concentration in the School of Theatre & Dance and the Music Theatre Emphasis in the School of Music?”

Yes. However the programs audition separately, so an audition for one degree program will NOT serve as an audition for the other. People typically choose to audition for the program that is most suited to their needs, although some students choose to audition for both programs and then determine, if accepted, which one is best suited to their abilities and goals.

Although the students in the two degree programs are completely integrated in performances, Musical Theatre, Acting, Dance, and some Music classes, the students in the School of Music program complete the same music support courses as all music majors (Classical Performance, Music Ed., Composition, Music Industry, etc…), and the students in the Theatre & Dance program complete almost the same theatre support courses as the Theatre Concentrators. If you have specific questions about the differences between the two programs email me at arecchkm@jmu.edu)

If you choose to audition for both programs it is possible to audition for both on January 30th.

“If I audition for the Musical Theatre Concentration in the School of Theatre & Dance will I also be considered for admission to the Theatre Concentration?”

Yes. While an audition IS required for admission to the Musical Theatre Concentration in the School of Theatre & Dance, currently an audition is not required for the Theatre Concentration. The audition for the Theatre Concentration can aid in placement, and in some instances acceptance into the university. The audition also provides a wonderful opportunity for the prospective student to learn more about our program and for us to learn more about the prospective student. If a student auditions for the Musical Theatre Concentration they are automatically considered for the Theatre Concentration.

“Do you offer scholarships for incoming students?”

The School of Theatre & Dance offers scholarships for established students in the Theatre, Dance, and Musical Theatre Concentrations. James Madison University offers scholarships (based upon academics and service) for incoming students.
