JMU Nursing?

-Current HS junior, top-ranked public high school
-Out of state
-Class rank- 63/338 (top 20%)
-Currently have a 3.7 unweighted GPA, expecting this to rise by the end of the year. Grades are upward trending
-Haven't yet taken ACT- all practice tests have turned out 28-31
-EC's: golf (freshman year), softball junior-senior year, founder/leader of a student org. to raise funding to promote women's ed in countries where they are very disadvantaged, Roots & Shoots (school environmental club), gonna start volunteering at my local hospital soon, mission trip to Guatemala/Honduras between 9th & 10th grade, should be inducted into NHS senior year
-Decent amt. of IBs and a couple APs

I know I'm only a junior so it may seem early, but I'm interested in applying to JMU next year because I like the size, location, weather, campus, and have heard good things from others. I also think its a more realistic choice for me. Pitt is my top but I'm afraid I won't be able to get into their nursing program (its direct admit) since its so highly ranked and my HS science grades weren't my strong suit freshman/soph year. What do you know about JMU's nursing? I love the school but I haven't heard a whole lot about the program. I know its not a direct admit at JMU, but just wanted to learn some more about it. Anyone know anything? Admission chances would be appreciated too (to the general school)

?

I think you’ve got a good chance. Keep your grades up this year, and think about taking the SAT as well (it’s more popular with VA schools). Your ACT is great but you might do even better on the SAT.

You really shouldn’t have any problem getting in. Good luck!

My son graduated JMU 2012. Not a nursing major. He has many friends who applied to nursing major and did not get in. I think they apply first semester of sophomore year? Not sure. And these were kids with high GPA’s like 3.7? I have heard that the nursing program is small, and they accept like 60 students per year? Not sure about that either. We loved JMU, not trying to dissuade you, just think you should ask JMU directly about nursing major, if that’s really what you want.
