JMU Transfer Question

I was rejected from JMU with a 3.0 UW GPA and 1110 (No Writing) SAT. I knew it was a reach but some kids from my school with lower GPA's and SATS got in.

I am planning to go to CCC for a year. What GPA would get me in as a transfer?

IF your talking james madison U... go to a VA CC get a 3.0 30 credits and your in for SURE

Yes, I'm talking about James Madison University.

I'm thinking about taking 1 or 2 classes during the summer. A typical semester is 15 credit hours, correct?

No you have it all wrong. JMU takes 28 students for freshman transfer. The students that get in usually have a 3.75 or higher in the VCCS system. Transferring after two years you need a minimum gpa of 3.2, and you have to meet the transfer agreement.

if he says so.. but I know people who transferred from VCCS after one year with a 3.0... but the VCCS is soo easy, if you try you will get a 3.5 easy..

its easier than HS imo VCCS that is

student your wrong my brother transferred into jmu with a 3.1 out of vccs after half a year there and they take way more than 28 people

Does JMU do spring transfers?

Thats what the website said, Office of Admissions - James Madison University - Tranfer Credit Policies How did he get in with a 3.1? The only way your brother could have gotten in is if he had really good high school grades, or when to Blue Ridge CC. I have heard that that JMU lets those kids in after one semester.

You only need 24 credit hours to transfer as a sophomore, so i would guess you need 12 credit hours to get in during the spring. I don't know what the average gpa is. JMU is getting harder and harder every year to get in. They just bumped up the gpa to get in the college of business. They are trying to get rid of the lower 30% so they move up in the ranking. JMU is trying to be like UVA and with the number of application the receive JMU is losing its slacker reputation.

ummm the VCCS is not as easy as you make it seem … it depends on the college you go to … i attend Dabney S. Lancaster Community and its a very challenging school depending on the classes you take … the general studies program needed to transfer with is one of the most challenging curriculms to take apart from the nursing program.

I recently got into Virginia tech, JMU and GMU with gpa of 3.3 from vccs. (for all schools I applied as a business major)
completed 30 credit hours and currently taking 13 more.
All three schools will give preference in the admission process if you meet there core curriculum requirements. Such as 2 semester of english, 2 semester of science with a lab, 2 semester of math etc. (the courses are various by the major)
I would recommand you to stay in cc for at least a year because they will definitly put weight on your high school gpa in the admission process if you have less than 24 to 30 credit hours.
See, If you have 30 credits or more you don’t even have to send your SAT score. Also, my high school gpa was only 2.5 and the purpose of sending a high school transcript is because they want to see if you meet there foregin language requirement.

Student3311, if you’re referring to the section where there are numbers next to the freshman, sophomore, etc. names, those are the amount of credit hours that classify you as those titles. Just wanted to clarify that.

Hey I am in my 1st semester at nvcc and I am planning on transferring to JMU possibly before I get my associates degree. I was just wondering since you said you got accepted into the school after 30 credits, did you get admitted into the spring semester?

I got rejected from JMU Spring Transfer with a 3.9 GPA, 1350 SAT’s, In-State Legacy, and 49 completed credits and 21 more underway. They are very particuliar on spring transfers. You need to have an assoicates degree or at least 60 completed credits in order to stand a chance. Fall is probably a different story, but spring is very competitive. I believe it is probably because JMU allows the GAA in the spring so anyone with a 3.0 and an associates degree from VCCS has an automatic acceptance, and therefore since spring is already so limited it pretty much leaves no room for anyone else. My suggestion. Apply for Fall. Also a thing of note, I got the strong impression JMU doesn’t look at the classes you are taking. They don’t want mid-term grades, they only care about college coursework COMPLETED. not the courses you are currently taking. Hope that helps.

How hard do you think it is to transfer into JMU from a 4 year college now as a freshmen transfer? what GPA do you think you need?
