I'm a freshman at JMU in the engineering program, but as most people know Tech is known for engineering way better than JMU. I was wait listed last year, and ended up getting rejected. I have concerns about three options, 1. Finish Engineering at JMU and go in to MBA program for graduate school. 2.Tranfer to V-tech, and persue my engineering degree in aerospace and go to masters degree in engineering. 3. Go in to accounting major which JMU is known for in College of Business. The only problem with JMU engineering is that there is no aerospace engineering which is what I really want to do and they only have just engineering degree. Some people are saying having engineering background with MBA will help alot getting jobs, and some are telling me that just go all the way with engineering. What do you guys suggest I should do? I want to fix airplanes for my career at airports LOL, accounting is my back up major.

If your thought is to get an engineering degree and then immediately after get an MBA, don’t. Even if you could get into an MBA program right out of undergrad it wouldn’t buy you much because you have no work experience. It might even hurt you because it tells employers you are not really interested in engineering. And you miss out on the primary purpose of getting an MBA, it facilitates career changing.

Now with that in mind, I think you can see that it makes more sense to transfer.

Also, mechanics fix airplanes at airports.

If your goal is aerospace then you need to do well at JMU and transfer to a school that offers that. Instate you have few options, VT being one of them (UVa & ODU also have aero). An MBA won’t get you a job in aerospace. Statistically more mech e’s are employed in the aerospace industry then aero e’s so that’s also an option. However, you are still going to have to transfer to get a mech e degree.

Best of luck.
