I was waitlisted and my stats are: 3.55 gpa weighted with 8 AP/IB courses and a 24 ACT Composite. 100 hours of community service, 3 years of crew/rowing, 2 part-time jobs, I am also a first generation male student from the NOVA school area. I was wondering what my chances are for getting off the waitlist and anything that I can do to try to get off the waitlist. Any information will be helpful. Thanks.

So was I, I got 4.1 gpa weighted, 1950 SAT, 4 AP courses, top 15% of class. Lots of community service, 2 years of auditioned choir, part time job and loads of horse-back riding.

First gen female from NoVA.

I’m pretty depressed about this,
anything I can do to get in this school I will do @_@

I looked at their data for the past two years and it seems that around a third of the wait-list eventually gets an admissions offer, but I feel that emailing them/calling them to confirm how interested you are is the way to go, I’ll be doing just that.

I really can’t imagine myself at any other college,
they can take my firstborn child.

As a freshman at jmu now…I now they do tend to waitlist over-qualified students to save their yield. They think you’re using them as a saftey.

Waitlisted too with a 3.49 gpa, 1890/2440 or 1290/1600 SAT, 7 AP/Honors classes, a ton of community service/leadership roles/ school involvement. I’m writing my admissions counselor a letter saying how JMU is my number one school which I’ve heard helps! ahh so nervous about everything.

I was waitlisted too. I’m a first generation female from Virginia. I have a 3.8 GPA unweighted, 1600 on SATs (including writing), member of National Honor Soceity, President of French Honor Soceity, a lot of community service, and other school involvement. I will do anything to get off of the waitlist! JMU is my top choice & I can’t picture myself going anywhere else next year! I think I’m going to write a letter to JMU saying that it’s my top choice & why they should accept me

Hey yall, I am currently a sophomore at JMU and I was in your shoes at this point 2 years ago. Do not be discouraged, like myself I know many who were eventually admitted off the waitlist. I wrote them a letter expressing my strong interest and sent an updated copy of my transcript. I wrote my letter in early April and was accepted in early June, just in time for high school graduation. If any of yall have any additional questions Id be happy to answer them!

Has anyone heard anything yet? Last year people found out around may 15th! I’m getting so nervous!

I haven’t and I’m getting so nervous! I’ve done everything possible to express my interest in JMU and it is my absolute #1 school, I would do anything to get in off the waitlist. I think they already took some people from VA off and accepted them but I’m not 100% sure. If anyone finds out please post on this! :)

Yeah, I’ve tried my best to express my interest as well, but I’m feeling panicky around now and a bit depressed. I’d like to know as well if anyone from VA has gotten in, but so far I haven’t heard anything.

I’ll update if anything happens my way though, which I hope will!

My son was on the waitlist for transfer admissions and got a call Wednesday offering him admission. We are VA residents. Hang in there and good luck!

My son told me a girl at his school received a letter on Tuesday offering her a freshman spot off the waitlist and we are from Northern Virginia. My son who is also waitlisted has not heard anything either. I hope more people start hearing something soon.

My daughter had paid her deposit at JMU but then she got off the wait list at Virginia Tech. After much agonizing, she decided to attend Virginia Tech. It was a difficult choice for her. Her older sister will be a senior at JMU and she has had such a wonderful time at JMU.

She sent JMU an email yesterday immediately after she received confirmation that Tech received her deposit. She wanted someone to hopefully get off the wait list. Best of luck to everyone. Hopefully, you will get good news soon!

Congrats to you daughter BlueHen89. My oldest son will be a senior at VT and loves it. I feel you daughter made the right choice and will have a wonderful experience being part of the Hokie family.

My son, who was waitlisted for the fall, received a letter of acceptance last Monday. Hope others hear good news soon. We are in-state.

It’s closed guys :-\ Just got the letter, it stated they weren’t able to use their waitlist due to how many accepted their initial offer.

I guess we were incredibly unlucky at the time we applied, I’m sorry to all, and those who got in, congrats.

I guess it’s time to plan for a transfer.

I just got the letter today saying that the wait list is closed. I went to the mailbox & saw a letter from JMU then got so excited hoping it was an acceptance letter & now I’m so disappointed :’( I’m planning to transfer to JMU after a year at Blue Ridge Community College now :(

I’m so sorry to see that the waitlist is closed! It seems like you guys were definitely qualified, I can’t understand what went wrong! But honestly, you have to remember that everything happens for a reason, and it will make you that much more grateful to be at jmu when you do get there. I know it’s hard not to be upset, but I know that if you work hard to you will make it to jmu! Hope to see you around Harrisonburg!
