Recently, my father quit his job and formed his own local business, “Mendez Pumps”. I work with my father now and I had to quit my old job as a waiter in order to help him out as his secretary (take calls, order parts, advertise, write emails, manage money, etc). On my common application, I already have down “Waiter” as one of my listed ECs (really great job, started working there in 9th grade). Is it worth it to put down the Secretary job as well?
You can E-Mail the schools to update them if you want. It really shouldn’t change anything since it’s trading a job for a job.
I would add it if there is room, it sounds like a lot of responsibility and you’ve learned different skills than you did as a waiter.
@“Erin’s Dad” That is what I was thinking. I feel like colleges wouldn’t really care since either way, they are both job ecs. I haven’t applied anywhere yet, and I do have space for 1 more EC on my common app. So I guess it can’t hurt to put down.
@OHMomof2 That is true. My job as a waiter really taught me how to be more sociable and communicable, something I really struggled with early in high school and in middle school. The secretary job has really tested and improved my ability to organize and multi task.
