Job Market for Computer Science grads from UCSD

I was admitted to UCSD as a Bioengineering (Biotechnology) major, but I switched out of it because I have grown sick of chem...even a bit of biology. I switched into Computer Science because I love math and it is something that is pretty popular out there.

However, I have been hearing that many jobs are being outcourced to other countries and that the job competition for Computer Science grads is stiff. I do not know how it is like for UCSD grads. I know that many companies located near UCSD like Qualcomm, Intuit, and Oracle hire people from there, but how hard is it for them to get jobs with respect to this economy? How good is UCSD in sending its graduates to many top-paying companies?

I do plan on earning a M.S. in computer Science and even an M.B.A. after that.

bump…

you’re going to have more opportunities than you know what to do with if you can keep a decent gpa. everything i see around here is for ee/cs majors.

From what I see, CS is the most demanded major at job fairs.

In respect to computer science, there are many jobs out there. If you are good at what you do, you’ll be able to access the top companies and have a nice job. But on the flipside, if you are not good, it is very easy for those companies to replace you.

UCSD’s compsci program is pretty well-known, so I don’t think you would go wrong with choosing to do compsci there.

I remember the job fair at UCSD for CS majors, it was pretty packed with applicants looking and people looking for applicants. It’s a hot business still!

Define “decent GPA”?
