I am wondering what experiences people have gone through as far as receiving offers for employment. My daughter has one year of school left and is in an internship right now. Her school has two big job expos during the year, one in the fall and one in the spring. She had internships lined up many months ahead of time, but I'm wondering if it is handled differently when you are talking about a "regular" job. Do companies make offers that far out? Is it smart to accept an offer six to nine months before you graduate? Or, considering the economy, are you just thankful to get an offer of employment?

MechE son was interning in the fall, but took time off (and drove ~ 2hrs back to college) to attend (late) fall job fair. Worked out for him - he was interviewed at the fair and then flown out (still in fall) for on-site interview. Was offered a job in January. Accepted, grad in May, will start work next month.
Advantages - stress free last semester
Disadvantages - was there a “better” job available he didn’t seek? Don’t know but he’d talked about working for 2 or 3 companies for the last couple of years and his job is with one of them.

Thanks, MSmom&dad. I wish your son the best in his new job. That’s great that he not only has a job, but received an offer from one of the companies he had been interested in. :)

Anyone else?
