I was wondering are all/most job opportunities and internships for EECS majors in silicon valley/the bay area? It’s a fantastic city/location but I was concerned about the far future. If I were to work at silicon valley, the cost of living will be enormous where making 100k/yr is equivalent to 65k/yr in a different city/state. Does Berkeley’s EECS rep carry nationally or even world wide and open up opportunities across the country? Or would I most likely be working at silicon valley or a place near after graduation? I’m asking because I’m considering Berkeley EECS and Princeton CS right now and I was thinking that Princeton’s name would provide opportunities everywhere whereas Berkeley would only feed me into silicon valley startups. I would love to stay in California for most of my life though, but the cost of living at the areas with CS jobs are too high.
To companies, EECS and CS will mostly appear the same (which is, CS, but EECS showing you have some more EE experience). Regardless, Berkeley’s CS program is #2 in the world, tied with Stanford, second to MIT. Berkeley’s CS reputation carries just as far as Princeton, and you can get plenty of jobs outside of SV (not like all EECS and CS grads go to SV).
tl;dr; Berkeley’s name for cs is better, will get you just as far as Princeton, and you’re not stuck to Silicon Valley either ways.
@mikuru Usually people would work at companies that they have interned at after college since it’s easier because they already have experience and connections with them right? I was thinking that if I went to Berkeley, I would most likely intern at silicon valley and eventually having to end up working there after graduating.

Look in the “What Can I Do With a Major In … ?” links for various years. Then look in the reports for the desired majors. These will list employment and graduate school destinations of responding graduates.
