I'm wavering between whether to apply for a job or play a sport this year. This is my junior year, and as you guys know, junior year = all the APs + SATs + ECs. I don't want to apply for a job now and then drop it like a month after school starts (cuz you have to commit to work at least 4 hours per day or something to get accepted right?). On the other hand, doing a sport would take only 2 hours per day and I can still have time for HW and maybe EC stuff.

You can do both but it will be hard. Its just a matter of finding a job with the right hours. For me, my sport ends at 5 and my job starts at 6, so it works out well.

Do a sport. It'll be more fun, and during junior year, one needs fun to balance out the stress caused by tests and such. As you mentioned, it'll take less time, but still shows a level of commitment.

if you've been playing the same sport continue with that to show your commitment to sports. if you've been working at the same place continue working there to show your commitment to your job. if you haven't done either, it doesn't really matter which one you choose

I would generally say sports, but it also depends on whether you could obtain a valuable position (leadership) or are do something meaningful (improving job that you're doing).

well for sports, it's basically for ECs, but for the job, it's more about money. I need to spend so much this year on AP tests fee, books, clothes, 2 DECA competitions, and other stuff; I don't want to keep asking for money from parents though (and I never earned money before).

thanks for all the advice thou. I might go for a sport first and then job later in the year.

^^^I defintely agree with the things that IBP said. Sometimes a job might be better. For example me I did tennis for two years, but then the second year I wasn't playing that much in the games and stuff. Only sometimes I played. I was ranked like 10th or so out of 12. So I'm probably not gonna do it next year and hopefully a job will help my resume.
