Job Prospects in CS and CS-Econ?

Hey guys,

Just wondering, what types of jobs do CS-Econ majors pursue? Also, what companies hire CS majors?

The reason I ask is so I can convince my parents to let me go to Brown for CS. Please help me out!

Thanks for everything  Specific examples would be greatly appreciated.

I’m also choosing between CS, Applied Math-CS and CS-Economics and would love to hear some thoughts from current or former Brownies

Microsoft, Google, Pixar, software engineering companies, IT consulting companies, and investment banks (if you want to go towards the financial sector)

Do you know anyone specifically?

Lapras just summed up at least half of the CS department, if not more…

I think CS Econ is one of the most marketable degrees from Brown. What is your parents problem with it? What would they rather you major in?

I would actually say that CS-Econ is the most marketable degree at Brown.

google, microsoft, apple, amazon, goldman sachs, morgan stanley, jane street capital, SIG, two sigma

Truth. If you are able to hack it, you will be extremely well prepared for a wide range of lucrative and stimulating careers in technology, finance, or statistical research.

Goldman Sachs? The Great Vampire Squid actually seeks out Brown’s graduating hippie-communists? ;)

Sigh. That is such a myth. Maybe back in the 1970s. Heck, Bobby Jindal went to Brown. Plenty of Brown students end up on Wall Street.
