Job prospects in San Francisco or LA

Hello,

How is the job prospect for graduates from UC Davis in SF and LA. Most of my family is based there so I would be able to save a lot on housing. I hear alot of people are getting jobs in Sacramento and not hearing much from SF or LA that’s why I am curious and quite worried.

Can you guys give me input on the job market with a UC Davis degree? Please share stories of people you know or from friends you’ve heard about

Thanks!

Insights anybody?

Sacramento is not a place you want to start a career. The options are limited. You are better off in bigger markets. Good Luck!

Have you not had any luck looking for jobs there?

I graduated in winter quarter and will be working in the SF Bay Area in August…I also have friends who found work in the Sacramento area, as well as other parts of the state. I guess it really depends on the field you’re in, but the job prospects for UC Davis graduates are not considerably lower in the Bay Area/LA vs. Sacramento just because of location. Other factors (skill, interest level, recommendations, connections) will help you get a job as well.

@mytime09: may I ask what field you are in? I think the OP’s concern (which is mine also regarding my son) is whether UCD grads are able to compete in the job market in the Bay Area and Los Angeles because these 2 areas already have UC Berkeley and UCLA to draw from.

I’ve heard Silicon valley appreciates UC Davis engineers. Also, UC Davis Chemical engineers are very highly employed by Chevron.

BTW Davis is awesome!

Thanks, that’s good to hear although son’s major is not engineering, his major is economics so I was wondering if there are business internships and opportunities available for him in the Bay Area as we live here and he eventually wants to work in Silicon Valley (since both his dad and I do and we love it).
