hey everyone,

I am not trying to be offensive, but UCSC is lower ranked than other UCs. Does this hamper UCSC grads of getting jobs after graduation? I wanted to know from student that graduated from or are currently attending UCSC, how hard/easy is it to get a job after graduating?

I realize that in order to get a job you need some internship experience and all that, how is UCSC in helping you find internship/research oppurtunities?

thank you all

hi there,

I think anyone will tell you that its up to the student to place him/her into a good job. UCSC may be as you put it "one of the lower UC's" but it is ranked in the top 100 Universities in the country. Plenty of people go to top Universities and are placed in amazing jobs, whereas plenty of students go to average state schools/community colleges and have equally amazing jobs. Obviously I cannot speak from experience, but if you go to UCSC with the mindset to place into a good job, you should find yourself successful.

This is a tough question to answer. The Career Center is pretty good, and has a lot of listings and connections. We have career fairs on campus a few times a year, and several major companies hold interviews on campus. Some departments can get you in touch with alumni in your proposed field as well.

However, with the current economy nothing can be promised. A lot of my friends just graduated this year and only a handful have "amazing jobs" at this point. On the flip side, some of them do have these jobs - benefits and all. Anything is possible, and most of it depends on the effort you as a person put into the process.
