Joe Paterno has passed away

May he rest in peace.

:( rest in peace. We are penn state is trending on twitter. I feel terrible though I never met Joe Pa.

Wow.

[Report: Former PSU coach Joe Paterno dies at 85 - CBSSports.com](http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/34497800?ttag=gen10_on_all_fb_na_txt_0001)

Now I am reading that the report is false? Wow, what a thing to get wrong. Sorry if I posted incorrect information.

no worries – you trusted the same source we all did.
CBS needs to apologize to the Paterno family.

It’s alright, we all believed it. Terrible rumors…

[Spokesman says CBS report that Joe Paterno has passed away is ‘absolutely not true’ | PennLive.com](Spokesman says CBS report that Joe Paterno has passed away is 'absolutely not true' - pennlive.com)

CBS was quoting the same reputable sources others reported. And by reputable, I mean people who reporters would have believed, and been right to do so. I’ve never been so glad to hear something was wrong, at least for now. About 300 students at the Shrine, not at the hospital or the house, as has also been reported in error. (You would be more impressed with the students holding candles if you knew how cold it is here tonight – maybe 10 degrees. Unless your heart is colder, and you are hoping to supplant God almighty as judge and jury)

Greenbutton: CBS took the story from OnwardState, did not attribute it to them, did not check Onward State’s sources, and then edited the article to say that it was from Onward State once they realized the story was false.

While Onward State was wrong, CBS still should have checked their sources and attributed the story to Onward State.

Wash Post says Onward State’s Managing Editor (Devon Edwards) has posted that he has “stepped down.”

Rest in peace Joe Paterno. Such a shame to go out the way he did :(

That’s how I would like to remember him. Thanks for posting the link.

Joe Paterno lived a great life. I think the least the school could have done was let him finish up the year. Football kept him alive and its a shame he passed away.
RIP Joe Pa

[What was boardmember Corbett’s role in the phone call that told JoePa he was immediately fired - Democratic Underground](http://www.democraticunderground.com/1074282)

I think the board did absolutely the right thing in firing Paterno. He absolutely had to go with the way he handled the whole situation back then. That said, that was about the only right thing the board has done. It is taking its grand old time with the investigation and I don’t think we’ll see complete resolution anytime soon.

RIP Joe Paterno.

Right or not, informing him by phone at that hour was a pretty cowardly way to handle it. He deserved better.

<<right or="" not,="" informing="" him="" by="" phone="" at="" that="" hour="" was="" a="" pretty="" cowardly="" way="" to="" handle="" it.="" he="" deserved="" better.="">></right>

So true.

I thought it was so sad, and ironic, and human that so many of the board members have said exactly what Joe did: in retrospect, I wish I’d done things a little differently…

No matter what naysayers and parachute media offer, the fact remains that he was a grand man, full of the old-fashioned belief that young people deserve to dream great dreams and become wonderful members of society. The man might have stumbled, but the belief remains a good one. Joe will be missed here.

Nicely said, greenbutton.
