John Carroll interview

hey, do you know if you can get ohio residence after a year? I read u can do this and pay in state tuition ...

yeah you're correct, i'm not sure ab the technicals regarding your parents' money in your undergrad tuition

Hi villaneweva,
when r u going to go to Cleveland? I spoke to Dr. Kinebrew who is one person who will be doing the interviews. She said each interviewer will have four students but since you are going early I would bet she would interview you. She said all u have 2 do to prepare is know about health and science issues and be comfortable talking about yourself..... what r u doing to prepare?
r u nervous?

by the way, who did u ask re how many applicants were taken last year?

yeah dr. kinebrew is interviewing me as well as the DAP director at UCCOM (Jennifer Rosichan). To prepare, I"m only going over ethical issues, investigating UCCOM and JCU, and reading personal statement. I'm not nervous now, but i'm sure I will be when I interview there this coming Monday.

Did she mention what the health and science issues may be? I think health issues are the med ethics, but what could the science issues be?

Also, could you please remmber to "interview" other candidates, like how many of them interviewed at other programs?

Just remember to be yourself and be very confident when you walk in. Also, groom and look good. there's a 50 % your interviewer will be a woman ;)

I won't forget.. also, pls write me after ur interview and tell me how it went. I don't know what she meant about science issues, good quesiton. Also, have you applied to any other programs?

palmtree,

r u going to the interview? Or will you choose another program?

university of cincy college of medicine is a very good medical school not b/c of a decent ranking that is with schools like brown but for the fact that its in ohio and u can train easily at case western and cleveland clinic (which is amazing from what i have heard about 300/surgerys per day) i applied to xavier's program and did their interview last month; my first interviewer was super nice and loved me my second interviewer was decent; i would have considered this highly but i don't like the fact that its 8 years [in Ohio] and I THINK (don't quote me) u can't apply out! if ur out of stater i would recommend establsihing instate residency after like couple of years living in apartments as an undergraduate and get cheaper tuition for their graduate;

hey, just had my interview. One thing that I really stress is being yourself, and this isn't just some BS saying. Your interviewer will ask you questions based off of cookie cutter asnwers so be prepared to talk about yourself and you better be congruent!

remember that your interviewer has heard so many applicants talk about how they like helping people, enjoy problem solving. so i think this interview is based much more on your character and integrity

good luck!

rishug, are you interviewing for JCU?

hi vilaneweva,

can you be more specific about what kinds of questions they ask? Were they nice, confrontational? what do you mean questions based off of cookie cutter answers? That is not so clear. How did you like the school? How did you feel about your interview?
thanks!

medhead,

for example, they asked me what was one aspect that described me that they could not get from paper.

i answered religion, she based q's off of that such as the topic of abortion. also, she asked about the dynamic of religion in my personal life. be ready to talk about yourself.

Overall the interview was very laid back, don't sweat it, really. although i didn't have time to look at the whole campus, JCU's science building (where you will be interviewing) is really nice.

overall i thought my interviews were pretty good. good luck with yours!

-villaneweva

thanks vallneweva!
You must be relieved that it is over. Did they ask you about your grades? SATS? also, if you are offered a spot, do you think you will go?
I'm glad your intervies went well. Thanks for the wishes!

If you and I both get in, we can communicate.

thanks again!

rishug,

tell me pls about not applying out, what exactly does that mean? Are you sure about this?

thanks

medhead,

they didn't ask me so much about my grades and SATs, but i think you should still prepare to answer those questions. i'll probably go if i get in, you?

i only had it with xavier;
i think they drop ur spot from cincy med school should u decide to apply to other med schools; call and find out the details but i don't think its that big of an issue unless u really hate ohio

I think I will, its a great opportunity! Did you get any feeling from them about how they liked you?
thanks rishug I will try and find out, although u cin is a really good med school, I would be happy to be accepted there. I've never been to Ohio so I don't know what to expect..... will see soon.

hi! Just finished my interviews, WHEW!!!!!!! It went great (I think). I was amazed at the turnout, 24 w/parents. My first was with a doctor from Ucin and then a Bio prof from JCU. Both were really nice but the one from JCU was heavy on the ethical questions. We had lunch after and met each other, a lot of nice kids, a girl from Tampa and lots from Ohio but also Michigan and California.... I tried to get info re how many programs were applied to, many had interviewed at NEOUCOMM and had already been accepted and I guess others from the other ucinn partners but that was less visible. Many like NEOUCOM for its accelerated route (6 yrs) which is good for us, but u never know, maybe they will change their mind, depends if acceleration is more important that 8 yrs. Met with the football coach after and looked around, I have a good feeling about JCU , really nice staff and the kids looked normal , well we shall see, its all about the wait now. They did say that they are making decisions TODAY but still have one interview (Miami) next week so they said they will be able to send out letters after Mar 28. But they said they will probable call/email before letters are received because they will want to actively recruit and try to get acceptees to go to their program. So , start waiting for emails/phone calls after Mar 28.. Thats about it ... Oh we also met kids who are already in the program,, they were all super nice. Let me know if u have any questions!

hey mate,

i pmed you my aim sn

hi! well I am in the John Carroll program. I am thrilled since it is my only choice. rishug, you can definately apply out if you want, this was discussed at the interview, in fact they give you a lot of time to make your decision. I know Ohio might not be exciting but I will take it, the relief is GREAT!!!!! Villaneweva, hope you get in. I know I was the first they called.

villaneweva, what gives?
