Does anyone know of the chances of being accepted after being waitlisted by JHU?
zero if you can’t get the name right
from johns hopkins website:
Do you have any historical data of how many students were admitted from the wait list in previous years?
Though every year is different and the numbers vary, here is what happened the past few years:
2011 – Approximately 20 students were admitted from the wait list.
2010 – Approximately 30 students were admitted from the wait list.
2009 – No offers of admission from the wait list.
2008 – Approximately 40 students were admitted from the wait list.
2007 – Approximately 80 offers.
2006 – No offers.
2005 – No offers.
2004 – Approximately 150 offers.
2003 – Approximately 100 offers.
2002 – No offers.
2001 – Approximately 50 offers.
2000 – No offers.
this was last year’s statistics from collegeboard.com for johns hopkins so about 7.9% acceptance rate

Thank you for this info…JHU is my top choice…
Hi, I’m currently a freshman at Hopkins (class of 2020) and I was on the waitlist last year. I have actually personally met 10 other kids just in my building that were also accepted off the waitlist so it is possible. If it is your first choice, try to send a letter of continued interest- I did this and stated that Hopkins was my number one. It is very important to say that if accepted your would enroll- they don’t want to waste time offering admission to people who are not 100% sure, especially since they want to confirm next years enrollment as soon as possible. I wish you the best of luck, I know how horrible it is waiting, but trust me, Hopkins is definitely worth the wait and effort to continue demonstrating your interest. Whether or not you get off the waitlist, you definitely have a bright future ahead of you- being on the waitlist is Hopkins way of acknowledging this and unfortunately they can only enroll limited numbers. Good luck!
yooo curent student!!! me too!! I wonder if we have met?
Would it be wise to put my financial situation in my LOCI? I’m worried about even going to college since I have to pay 50,000 a year for every school I got in, meaning i’ll have to take a gap year. However, I don’t think they are need-blind for waitlist, so i’m mixed if I should add this or not.
Hey guys, looking at past waitlist threads I’ve determined that the first wave of acceptance off the waitlist to start the first week of May - prob right after May 1st. Good luck to all you!! If you hear anything from them - a call, an email asking for updates - please let us know!! I have my fingers crossed that they’ll actually take some from the waitlist and not have over enrollment this year — btw does anyone know anything about the yielding rate this year? I gone crazy trying to determine the enrollment number by checking their Facebook admitted students pages - there’s one for enrolled and one for admitted.
Has anyone heard anything yet?
@amazayn123 nothing beyond my regional ao emailing me saying she received my LOCI.
Any updates today? They sent the first wave on this date last year.
My mother called and I think she said that the first wave starts on May 5. Fwiw wait lists can run all the way to late June or even August…
Best of luck to you all.
Anyone hear back from JHU?
@nycc99 besides my AO acknowledging my LOCI, nothing
Since the Transfer decisions came out today, I hope we’ll get news tomorrow. This is just speculation, but maybe the class is full since we haven’t heard anything yet… I mean they’re not exactly rushing to take people off the waitlist like other schools. Does anybody have confirmation they’re visiting the waitlist at all?
I asked JHU if there was any movement from the waitlist today. The kind assistant to the Dean of Undergraduate Admission replied: “No, we have not yet gone to the Wait List. Check back closer to the end of the month.” The email reply was between 12:00 and 13:00 EDT today (8 May 2017). Good luck!
If I get in I’m going to run through my campus naked.
At this point, it feels really awful when you’re hoping to get the call everyday and it doesn’t happen. I think my optimism for the waitlist will never truly die until they announce publicly (with a statement) they won’t use it. I wonder what they’re waiting for at this point for both sides of the coin - contacting waitlisters or announcing they’re full. Any thoughts?
I completely get it. JHU has been my dream school for a really long time, and it really sucks to be waitlisted. Tbh the first wave has generally been released around the first or second week after May 1, so I don’t know why they have not released anything yet this year. It’s pretty disheartening
