So the deadline for freshman housing selection is tomorrow, and I’m still torn between John Jay and Carman. I’ve read practically everything there is to read online, but I’m having difficult time figuring out what the social scene is really like. I like to party, dance, drink, etc, but I’m also kind of a nerd, I’m not athletic, and I’m a girl who likes a lot of typical guy things and often gets along with nerdy guys/girls better than popular/jock types. I want the fun party experience of Carman and the chance to make a close group of friends immediately, but I’m worried about not clicking with the other people in my suite or on my floor because they’re more mainstream and not into the same things. Would I be better off picking John Jay because it fits that vibe better or are they both pretty diverse?
John Jay has a lot of singles. Sounds like Carman has a lot of doubles.
@texaspg Yeah I know, I guess to rephrase my question, is there a certain kind of personality in each, beyond just singles vs. doubles, or is that really the only difference and they both have all kinds of people?
I think they would have all kinds of people. I toured the dorms last year and they put pictures depicting the interests of students and each floor showed a lot of diversity in terms of interests. There was someone in John Jay I know who deliberately chose a double and someone who wanted a single.
