Johns Hopkins chances?

Do any of you happen to know if Johns Hopkins is one of those colleges that offers deferred admission to some borderline admits – such as admitted but would have to wait until winter 2018 to begin? (I saw people here talking about that for somewhere else high-tier). My S17 also applied here to Hopkins couple of weeks ago, with SAT 1440 (out of 1600, but which is also a little below their average). My S doesn’t have similar EC’s to you, inspirational13, but does have some good EC’s like varsity team captain for e.g. Well he was also an ambassador for incoming freshman, like you, though he might not have mentioned that in his applic. - Here’s to waiting and wondering.

Okay then … chance us (if anyone has the inclination): son was RD for J. Hopkins; 4.3 GPA (W), 4.0 (UN), 1440 SAT (730 math), SAT subject tests: not too good, since unfortunately didn’t re-take or study for those (They were math II and Biol (E), mid 600’s but taken jr year w/o studying for them). About 9 APs (5 APs are this year);
ECs: main one is varsity captain, cross country and track teams, 21+ hrs/wk. with many awards such as most dedicated, most valuable on team, etc., etc; could possibly make the Div. III distance team at Hopkins but if so, just barely, so their coach isn’t actually recruiting him (but he might make it as a “walk on”). Bio. vs biomed. engineering major, with 3 years PLTW engineering magnet elective courses during HS but no research exp. Class Rank: 7 out of 430. I’m figuring JH is a ‘reach’ for him, given what I’ve read.

@inspirational13 I’d say that your chances for UVA are average to pretty good, especially if you chose to do early action. I honestly knew some kids that had equal or slightly worse numbers than you that got into UVA because of in-state privelige.

@Momofsenior2017 4.0 UW GPA is excellent, but just telling me he took 9 APs doesn’t really help me here in terms of determining class rigor. How many AP classes are offered?
SAT is a bit low of average and the bad SAT subject tests don’t help at all.
ECs: leadership is good along with some awards, but it doesn’t seem like the awards are state or national level. Even if he was being recruited, it would only really help for ED.

Chances: Pretty low.
Feel free to msg me if you want to go more in depth or hear more about myself or some of the other current students I know.
