@Anouchi

You look like you are interested in Hopkins becuase of its ties to Johns Hopkins Medical School and Hospital, I was too. It was actually my first choice when I thought going to Hopkins would give me a better chance of getting into Hopkins Medical School. My hopes were crushed when the admissions representative made it very clear that the undergraduate department really has little to do with the medical school. However, becuase of Hopkins proximity to both the Medical school and the Hospital, (which is one of the nation’s best) and the subsequent research opportunities, it is still a great school for future doctors. And I am still applying.

^^ Statistically, JHU graduates do have a better chance of getting into JHMS than others although I am not aware any stated policy favoring JHU graduates.

Yes, it’s true I am very attracted to their amazing medical school, and like Prof101 said above, Hopkins students have traditionally done the best in Med Admissions to JHSOM, but that’s not the only reason I love Hopkins. I love their cornerstone of discovery, and independent study and achievement. The resources at Hopkins are some of the best in the world and research will be plentiful. There are also plenty of JHSOM volunteer/shadow opps available to JHU undergrads exclusively. You can also do research at the school of medicine as an undergraduate student and to research at their medical school is like being at the epicenter of medical advancement. I would check the pre professional website and check out the opportunities offered to Hopkins Undergrads if you want more info.

Also about the statistic on Hopkins students doing the best in Johns Hopkins Medical school admissions: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/som/s...08/MCAT11b.pdf

Good Luck :)

@Wongtongtong: Just a heads up, Johns Hopkins doesn’t offer biochemistry as a major; however, their chemistry department is fantastic, and if you really are intent on biochem, you can major in biology and I !THINK! there may be a concentration for biochem, correct me if I’m wrong, powers that be. You can’t double major in biology and chem because the curricula are so similar.

1) I’m from Tampa, Florida.
2. I know absolutely no one at Johns Hopkins :slight_smile:
3. Haven’t visited yet, but I fully intend on it before summer ends. I hear the campus is beautiful and the library is amazing.
4. I’m thinking of trying to get in to the English program-- I’ve heard some stuff about it, is it true that it’s one of the best in the country? I feel like people overlook Hopkins’ English department because of their outstanding medical school. Hidden gem?? Also, I’ve pondered a psychology or maybe a history major, and some sort of science isn’t completely out of the running yet either. I’m very indecisive.
5. I’ve never played or watched a single lacrosse game. Sorry.
6. Fave highschool class would have to have been either World History or Law Studies.
7. Haven’t decided yet-- Leaning towards yes, though.
8. I’d like to row, be involved with student government, maybe a photography club, and a debate team of some sort!

^^English department is totally a hidden gem @ Hopkins. Faculty are incredible (aka Drew Daniel, Doug Mao).
