Top 30% in my highschool which is very very rigorous and known to be the hardest highschool in Southern California.

Extracurriculars

Member of Link Crew for two years in which a select group of students chosen through an intense application process lead and guide Freshman and New Students at the beginning of the school year and help plan the school’s orientation welcoming students into the school and accommodating them.

Participated in Red Cross Club for 3 years, junior year was liason and secretary on the board. Spent around 80 hours coordinating Red Cross Club activities this year and spent majority of time in many Red Cross of Orange County chapter activities such as blood drives.

So overall, I would just like to know if I have a chance for ED’ing to Hopkins!!! THANK YOU

Most schools look at your UW GPA rather than your weighted. If your UW (which I’m assuming is lower than your wGPA) is below 3.7, that and your SAT score will hurt your chances. The easiest way to chance an applicant, however, is to look at a school’s Common Data Set. If you look at Section C, question 9, you’ll find the following statistics for admitted students:

-SAT 25th percentiles for CR, Math, and Writing: 660, 680, and 660 respectively.
-% of admitted students with 700+ in CR, M, and W: 54%, 68%, and 61% respectively (and in general the students admitted with sub-700 section scores will be in the upper 600s with stronger scores in the other two sections)

The 25th percentiles add up to 2000, and the 25th percentile composite will be higher than that (as I explain above, very few students will be at/below the 25th percentile for all 3 sections).

Your GPA is likely below the admission average, and your SAT is probably 50-100 points below the 25th percentile composite. The 690 on your SAT II won’t help either. You’re in the score range where a weak hook (like ED) may help, but you’d really need a strong hook to give you average or above-average odds - meaning double URM/double legacy/recruited lacrosse player, etc. You have a chance, as does every applicant, but don’t expect much.

Thank you very much man, I appreciate the honesty and thoroughness put into your answer

bump

You’re below average for JHU, but you definitely have a chance. I don’t want to be mean, but your ECs kind of show a lack of dedication. Your GPA and SAT will also hurt you. Definitely apply tho bc anything can happen

Should I even apply to JHU regular action with a 3.93/4.00 GPA and a 31 on the ACT? My class rank is 5/44 (top 15%) and I have a decent extracurricular list, including a research internship at UT Southwestern and establishing a CPR Club. (I’m a certified BLS instructor) However, I feel that something is missing. (SAT II: I got a 700 on the Bio E and 730 on Math II) My academic profile is pretty weak. Any thoughts?
