Johns Hopkins early decision?

So here’s where i am at:

GPA: 3.67 ( i know pretty bad)
SAT: 2150 (…i know pretty mediocre)
SAT II: Biology- 800 and Math Level 2 - 800

I am very involved in my school:

  • NHS president. Because of this, I have over 200 hours of community service and I coordinated this really big event at our school called WorldFest that celebrates cultural diversity.
  • Model Congress (club) President. I coordinated our school's first annual model congress conference with a key note speaker and everything. I put a lot of time into this club and we take an annual trip to Harvard to compete. I won an award at this conference.
  • Model UN (club) and im the under-secretary general which is essentially the vice president. I've coordinated our delegation to a Johns Hopkins conference that I've attended for the past 3 years.
  • Internship in the neuro-anesthesiology lab at johns hopkins hospital

I do a lot more but these are the things i am the most passionate about. I center my life around these activities that i care about so much because it fosters as true sense of character in me and the students/peers i lead.

with that, what are my chances of getting into johns hopkins early decision? i love the school so much and it would be a dream come true to attend. What do you guys think? anything you have to say would be helpful.

Johns Hopkins is famous for requiring a lot of hard work to get reasonable grades. If your GPA is low b/c you can’t manage your ECs and work now, you might think very seriously about whether you will be able for the level and volume of work. That is not meant unkindly: it is important to be realistic about what is going to suit you. Loving a school as a visitor is different than thriving in it as a full-time student. If you are having wonderful Model UN experiences there, some of the love you are feeling is almost certainly spillover from the exhilaration of the event.

Some data:

JHU says GPA is “very important” in admissions (average GPA is 3.78, v. 3.67), along with course rigor, recommendations and character

The middle 50% of successful students have SAT scores of 2020-2300 (v. 2150)

So, if that’s what you love, go for it- but first, find another school that you also love, where your stats are in the top 25% of admitted students. Then find a second school that you love, where your stats are in the upper half of the middle 50%. Then focus on JHU.

Given you have all these JHU-related experiences as a HS student, are you a Baltimore local? Being a local applicant would be a huge boost to your chances of acceptance since JHU is committed to being more inclusive of Baltimore residents. Also, remember that stats are a strong indicator of acceptance, but by no means disqualify you. There are always surprises come acceptance time, and while you shouldn’t assume you’ll be the exception to the norm, it happens all the time.

I do agree though that if you don’t have other factors such as being a Baltimore resident, URM status, living in a low-income city, etc. then it will of course be very difficult to get in given your stats, so you should also focus on researching less-competitive schools as a contingency plan.

If you apply ED, you might have a pretty good chance. Good luck
