Your GPA is a tad low, but your SAT 2 scores are good, and if you can boost your ACT score, that would really help your chances. Your ECs are decent, but Hopkins will still be a reach for you, so definitely make sure the rest of your application is as good as it can be.

How is his GPA low? The average for freshman is 3.74. I think OP has a good chance if (s)he can knock this essay out of the park.

^ Yeah, looking back, you’re right. I was just thinking about GPA + test scores presented together, and how you want to have a cushion if at all possible. Especially since Hopkins cares about the numbers, and the average high school GPA for admission is slowly rising (for 2017, it was 3.76). But yeah, OP, your GPA definitely shouldn’t be a deal breaker…

The current average GPA for enrolled freshman is actually a 3.88 now (<a href=“A quick look at the Johns Hopkins University Class of 2018 | Hub”>http://hub.jhu.edu/2014/08/21/class-of-2018-facts</a>) So yes, it is low, given that admitted students have higher GPAs. Hopkins admissions has gotten significantly higher with the new admissions dean from UPenn (which has historically been focused on increasing admissions selectivity metrics like rank and test scores more than other schools - this is a benefit to Hopkins in my mind. Hopkins can now be more holistic with an upper echelon of applicants)
