JOHNS HOPKINS ED chances

Will a C in my second semester of junior year in AP US History ruin my chances? Or at least make my chances very low?

Junior year grades:
1st semester: A,A,A,A,B,B
2nd semester: A,A,A,A,B,C

Here are a few more of my stats:

Planning to apply early for behavioral biology by the way.

GPA:
-my school does not rank (but I would say at least top 5-10%???)
-unweighted: 3.83
-weighted: 4.17 (my school doesn't weight GPAs but I calculated it myself)

Academics:
-I took 3 AP classes (Biology[4], US History[4], Calc BC[5]) junior year
-5 AP classes this year (Chemistry, Literature, Spanish, Statistics, Microeconomy)

Tests:
-PSAT: 223 (National Merit Semi-Finalist; I just submitted my app for Finalist)
-SAT I: Verbal(710), Writing(770), Math(800) = 2280
-SAT Subject Tests: Math IIC(800), Korean w/Listening(800), Biology(800)

EC:
-Student Government: Secretary 3 years, Vice President 1 year (Student council all four years)
-Future Business Leaders of America (HUGE national business club for those who are unfamiliar): Chapter Social Chair 1 year, Vice President 1 year, Secretary/Treasurer 1 year
-Virtual Business Challenge (competition offered by FBLA): 1st place for the State of CA, 1st in the nation (all in my Junior year)
-200 hours of volunteer service at El Camino Hospital. I was also recently promoted to Shift Captain.
-Yearbook Photo Editor for two years
-Senior Award from Music Teachers' Association of California for piano
-Humanitarian Project with World Family to Gara Dima, Ethiopia during my winter break of Junior year
-Church Youth Praise Band Leader for five years
-Job as tutor during Junior Summer

Your scores on tests (SAT/AP) put you in line for good news and ED will help. The C in the class is countered by your 4 on the ap. Your course load is demanding Senior year. If your grades are good this year you have a better than average shot.
good luck!

Thank you! I am certainly doing better this year as a senior but the admission directors won’t be receiving the midterm report until after they decide…

Thanks again!

you could send 1st qtr grades if you felt it would help.

If you don’t get in, it won’t be because of that C. It will because…idk. you remind the admissions person of their exboyfriend, or you don’t “fit” right. Basucally you’re a perfect candidate on paper.

I had 4 C’s first semester of my sophomore year due to medical issues interfering with my ability to go to school/do my work, and I got into JHU.

You have a great application, don’t sweat the C, it’s out of your power now anyway. Plus that 4 on the AP test validates it :)

Hope we’ll be seeing each other on the Early Decision acceptance list :)

Thank you so much everyone for your honest replies! I needed a confidence boost and you gave me just what I needed!
