Didn’t see a thread for fall 2016 transfers thought I could make one to meet the rest of the transfers!
yes! I am also transferring
Do you guys mind sharing general info from what schools your transferring from (public, private, in-state)? Curious what kinds of students successfully transfer in given that it’s asked a lot on this site. My past encounters have suggested to me that successful transfers are mostly from Maryland (often Baltimore) public colleges.
School: Montgomery Community College (Maryland)!
Major: English/Literature
GPA: 3.92
EC: Internship at literary magazine, copy editor for school news paper, debate club, student art league, psychology club, philosophy club, inklings, etc.
I’ve been to a campus visit and from my perspective there were a lot of foreigners attending Johns Hopkins. I figure its kind of a long shot but eh what the hey.
Hoping that the humanities would be willing to offer me a spot, if not its fine.
JHU is a private institution I don’t think they will heavily look at where a student is transferring from honestly. As long as you have a strong GPA and a great application you have a big chance of being admitted.
I got an email today that said the instructions to login to the decision portal will be sent to us soon and decisions are made mid-may…I freaked out when I saw it was from JHU though lol
Me too! LOL! Especially when you the title starts with “Your admissions decision…” :))
@Angiao God I know!!! I think I had a mini heart attack when I saw it came from JHU and it said “admissions decision”!! Then I read the “account” and recuperated! hahaha
ughhh got an email about activating the portal today!!!
@leahleah Does your portal say that it’s waiting for your signed parents’ tax return?
Gotta a same email.
I do think they will consider GPA in the context of your university. Obviously it will be easier to earn a higher GPA at a less competitive school. I think a 3.9 GPA from a CC will be viewed differently than a 3.9 at a school of JHU’s caliber for sure
Stats anyone? It’s a long shot for me and JHU is my top choice, but I thought why not.
I applied last year and was rejected. Tried again this year. :)) hopefully, it won’t say no AGAIN.
I’ll post some basic stats.
Major: Computer Science
Current School/all colleges attended (if applicable): USC
Current GPA: 3.9
Year: Sophomore
High School GPA: 4.0
SAT/ACT score: 2340 SAT taken in one sitting
Extra Curricular: CS teaching assistant, undergraduate research, internship at a major tech company, Trustee scholarship recipient, Viterbi Undergraduate Fellow, WVT Rusch Engineering Honors Program, and a number of others.
Also, I was accepted to Johns Hopkins when I applied out of high school, so maybe that will help.
Does anyone have idea when the decisions are coming out?
Hey! I also applied. Stats:
Major: Biology
Current School: Miami Dade College
Current GPA: 4.0
Year: Graduating Sophomore (with AA)
High School GPA: 4.7 (unweighted) and 4.0 (weighted)
Extra Curricular: undergraduate research, Honors College, Biology Club, STEM Ambassador, Math Club, PTK, and others.
Pros: The fact that I’m Hispanic and came to the US 3 years ago. (My story basically)
Cons: I forgot to submit my supplementary essays, so there’s a great chance that I’ll get rejected because of that, even though I’ve been getting the emails saying that decisions will come out soon.
Hey guys I got a call from (410)610-9332. This is a number from Baltimore, MD apparently. Wondering if it was JHU? Also here are my stats/info:
College transferring from: Top 30-35 in the US, small public school/liberal arts. (School has major grade deflation)
Major: Economics/Mathematics
College GPA: 3.82 (3.87 after this semester finishes)
Highschool GPA: I did the British A-Levels/GCSEs and got straight As and A+s (we didn’t have GPAs)
SAT I: 1830 (took in late 2013…so bleh)
SAT II: Math Level I (720), Math Level II (750), Chemistry (620) (took early 2014… so bleh again lol)
APs: I got one 4 and three 3s (these I did by myself for fun as my highschool was of British curriculum)
ECs: D1 athlete, have done 2 major internships at banks, done research work at a major university in my home country, am in many different clubs/organizations on my campus, have quite a few community services too. I also highlighted a few high school achievements/awards as well.
Essays: Are really solid in my opinion, and other people’s unbiased opinion too haha.
Recs: I sent 2-3, I know at least one will be spectacular, and the other 1-2 should be decent enough I guess? :S
@BatWonder77 Are you at William and Mary? My brother is graduating from there in a few weeks and I know it’s known for its grade deflation haha.
@AtBestBuffalo , no I’m not. But I’ve got a friend who goes there and I’ve heard about their grade deflation. average GPA is like 2.7 lol
Here comes May guys
