Johns Hopkins Fall 2017 Transfers

Greetings! There’s a thread every year so I thought I’d make one for us 2017 transfers.

Greetings!

I am applying as a transfer for Sophomore year 2017. I was wondering, have you any idea which categories hold more gravity when it comes to admissions (HS GPA, College GPA, SATs, RECs, etc. )? Further, what are you applying for?

MasaeedHamza,

If you’re applying for sophomore status, chances are that your HS GPA and SAT scores will hold considerable weight. This is largely because the admissions team has little to build your profile on from a semester of college work. As for me, I am applying for junior status as a Political Science major.

Did any of you receive a follow-up e-mail with additional details after the submission verification e-mail? I still haven’t gotten mine.

MysteriousDude,

You’re not supposed to receive a follow up email with additional details after the submission verification email. If all required documents have been submitted, then you should be good to go!

I received an email saying I had not submitted either of my transcripts even though I have received confirmation emails that both have been received… I sent an email a couple days ago about it but have not heard back. I guess I will call on Monday.

Please do not make the same mistake I made. I transferred in 2016 as a junior from a state school. I had a 3.98 at my previous institution and in the Fall at Hopkins I got a 4.0 with 2 A+s. However, I am discouraged from applying directly to medical school b/c the advising office keeps telling me to take a gap year. They won’t write me a committee letter cuz I was not at Hopkins for 2 years.

The school is extremely depressing. The reason the students are “cutthroat” or “hardworking” is due to the lack of non-academic things you could do on-campus. I made a huge mistake. I only applied to Hopkins and regret it heavily. Life is terrible in Baltimore. DON’T TRANSFER just because you think this school is good for premed.

@Shhsvri it will always be better than my tiny public college in the middle of nowhere where the only form of entertainment is the local Walmart lol

I’m wondering when they’ll send us a notification about possible missing items.

When do decisions come?

When do you think decisions will be released?

it says on the website may 15

@MysteriousDude I already got an email a while back about that so you must not have been missing anything… when do we get our portal log-ins?

Has anyone heard anything from JHU? regarding their app or like decisions dates (other than the May 15 on their website) or like literally anything?

Hello, I am a freshman and I applied to JHU for transfer in Fall 2017 in Political Science, was wondering what you thought about my chances.

Man I wish the decisions were returned earlier than a month from now. Also to the person posting about what is important: college GPA. I got into Wake Forest (test optional top 30 school that highly values GPA in their admissions process) with shitty HS grades (3.2 uw 3.4 w). I had a much much higher GPA in college with only 2 quarters of completed college coursework. HS GPA/SATs are indicators of how well you will do in college. Your college grades are how well you are actually doing, and hold much more weight. I have heard this over and over again from every college transfer admissions officer. After college GPA, probably essays and ECs are pretty important, followed by your HS stuff. Good luck everyone

Greetings,

I am applying for sophomore transfer to Johns Hopkins University as an AMS (applied mathematics and statistics) and Economics double major. I was just wondering if there’s a way for us to check if we’re missing any application materials, or if JHU will send us an email if we’re missing something? Also, are decisions rolling or do they come out all at once?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!

@jchillen pretty sure they would have contacted you
