<p>First of all, it isn't 50%... the data is outdated.</p>
<p>Second, anything below 50% is selective.. it means half or more are not accepted. </p>
<p>Third, ED candidates do not have a lower academic profile than do RD candidates... there is just a greater percentage of them accepted.</p>
<p>Actually, the statistic is closer to 44.7% According to collegeboard 446/997 of ED applicants were admitted.</p>
<p>And flomatiks is right; it doesn't mean the academic profile of the students admitted ED isn't any lower than those of the regular pool. The statistic just means that of the 997 people whose first-choice school was JHU, less than 50% of them got in that round. It's actually not really a promising figure.</p>
<p>There are actually quite a few schools who have similar acceptance percentages as Hopkins. However, they might have a higher yield than Hopkins because they're not competing for the same students.</p>
<p>Also, why should you be applying to a school you look down upon? ED is binding - if you think it's easy-peasy to get into, then throw yourself into the regular pool. There's plenty of competition there.</p>
<p>A more telling piece of advice: look at the profile of students who -didn't- get in, not the ones who did. That should give you a little more perspective.</p>
<p>There were definitely more than 997 ED applicants last year, so the acceptance rate was a little lower. Keep in mind what 42-ish% means-more than 1 out of every 2 students is not admitted. As the applicants have been increasing the last several years, the ED rate is almost guaranteed to drop again, closer to 40% and maybe lower.</p>
<p>Hopkins is one of those odd schools where the sort of exceptionally bright students congregate in the applicant pool. I think it's a lot harder than the admit rate suggests - as in the SAT M 50% range is 700-790, no joke. </p>
<p>Further, I think it's one of the hardest places to graduate from but one of the most recognized degree's.</p>
<p>That said, every Hopkins kid I've met loves it there. It's all about fit.</p>
<p>Hardest places to graduate from? Are our 4-year grad rates that low? I think the work is certainly very challenging, but you'll find that almost everyone else is in the same boat as you. Work hard, and you will do well.</p>
<p>harder compared to most other colleges rather - not with respect to graduation rates. i believe the graduation rates at hopkins are exceptionally high if i remember right - maybe 87-89%.</p>

<p>LOL, Some of the most brightest ppl I've met applied here ED. They could have very well applied to schools like Stanford and very likely would have gotten in. There are some really smart and dedicated ppl right here. Don't doubt them like that.</p>
<p>Yeap, Hopkins is definitely a piece of cake! Just apply, you'll get in...I'm mean what's the worse that could happen? It's not like you'll spend the next 4 years working your ass off and possibly have your (obviously overblown) self esteem flattened, right?</p>
