Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Wash U St Louis, and UMich for a Nervous Senior :(

GPA: 3.784 UW, 4.430 W
(I have taken a very rigorous course load -- as indicated by my weighted GPA -- I have actually gotten 4 B's over my high school career, compared to 17 A's)

SAT: 730 M 740 CR 640W (Essay: 11)

SAT II:
Math IIC: 720
Chemistry: 710
*I go to an extremely competitive school
*we do not rank because of overly-competitive atmosphere

AP Scores
Chemistry 5
US History 4

EC
Freshman Summer-- Took classes at local community college
Sophomore Summer -- UPenn PreCollege Program
Junior Summer -- took a class at my state university/ Shadowed General Internist Hospital Specialist at Brigham and Womens Hospital (Harvard Med Teaching Affiliate )

***Also I am researching with a professor at Rutgers. We are trying to find a correlation between cortical asymmetry (depression) and hypertension/heart disease using a electroencephalogram and a pulse/blood pressure monitor. I think this is pretty unique

Model UN (10,11,12)
--Have attended numerous national conferences in Model UN and have won several Individual (national) Awards -- As many of you MUNers know, winning at large conferences is no easy feat
--My school's MUN team is the best MUN team in the state
-- Placed first several times at my High School's 'mock' model united nations conferences.

-I was lucky enough to receive a New Jersey Legislature Citation of Praise and Commendation for my Community Service

-I shadow General Internists every weekend at the Best Hospital in New Jersey (It's surprisingly difficult to get a team of doctors to let a high schoolers tag along with them on rounds)

200+ hours of volunteering at Nursing Home
National Math Honors Society (11,12)
National Spanish Honors Society (11,12)
JV Lacrosse (9,10)

Chances at:
1. Northwestern (sister attends school, hopefully that helps)**
2. Johns Hopkins
3. Wash U St Louis
4. UMich -- Ann Arbor

so yeah...any comments or advice would be veryy helpful

thanks in advance,
The Individual

I know you guys are out there lol :)

What are your essays about? Everything you listed is great, but I really don't see any "personality" through this application. What is your passion?

Regardless, you are very strong. I think that you have a great shot at those schools.

My essays do manifest my true passions -- and I believe I do have many. I love medicine (Hospital/Research ECs) and Psychology (Have taken two undergrad college courses in it), but I also love weather and numismatics (coin collecting).

What I hope that my essays show is that I love to learn -- regardless of the field. Although I may excel at and enjoy math or science, I also thoroughly enjoy taking AP Language and Composition to become a better writer.

Thanks, and keep the chances coming :)

yes, the infamous "bump"

your scores put you at a good chance at all of the schools, but yes, everything else comes down to your "passions."

yeapp -- I really hope that I've demonstrated them well!

thanks, and I know more of you wanna chance me...

bump it up people, I know u wanna chance

anyone...:(

Happy Holidays Guys!

any chances would be veryyyy much appreciated!

anyone.....plz

thanks :)

Alright, I'll be blunt..sorry.

I'll say that I think your stats are def. good enough for U of Michigan, but I think they might be a bit weak for Northwestern. I know you said your school is very competitive and that you took a harder course load which is why your GPA is a bit low. I just want to tell you something you probably already know. There's a ton of people out there, who have schools just as competitive as yours and who take classes that are just as hard as yours, but are still managing better scores. (Sorry)

So I guess since you're a senior, there's not really much I can suggest at this point. Try to make sure your essays are killer though, and get great recs. Then I think you'll have a moderately good chance at JHU. Sorry, but I'm really not familiar with Wash U St. Louis, so can't say anything about that one.

Although as an afterthought, that research thing is good!!!!! In my eyes, your chances just increased.

thanks for the candor.

bump it up
