I am also low income, Asian, and my mother is a single mother. I have decided that JHU is my dream school because it matches everything I want to do. I am planning on applying early decision, so what would be my chances for this? I will chance back! thanks!

Your ACT score is pretty solid and so is your bio subject test score. What grade are you in? Try to see if you can bring up your gpa to 3.6 or 3.7 at least for Johns Hopkins. You definitely have a lot of good ec’s pointed towards science so that’s really good and that should reflect your passion/determintation more than your grades! It is a slightly reach school for you ( I mean, it is for a lot of people) but you definitely still have a shot! GOOD LUCK!!

Chance me back? Appreciate it! :]

I am a senior so I don’t have any other time. I am applying on November 1

anyone else please!? I’m freaking out =[

Well your extra-curricular activities are OUTSTANDING. Yet your GPA is low. I would retake the SAT II Biology. Work really hard on your essay, apply early action, and you will be an excellent canidate. Here are other universities would great med program. University of Washington, UNC-Chapel Hill, and UMich. GOOD LUCK!!

Your GPA is low and SAT II scores are low and ACT is average.
And, being Asian does not help either.

But, I think you can enhance your chances big time by writing great essays describing your situation. ED is a good plan.
(I think you have to request an interview. Check JHU webpage so you do not miss the deadline.)

I hope you make it! Good luck to you.

Question: What about the Questbridge program?

thanks SeattleBulldog

has anyone with similar stats got into Hopkins?

anyone else! Ill chance back!

Hopkins isn’t apart of the Questbridge program

anyone else? I will chance back!

I am stressing out big time! HELP

anyone else have any thoughts? ill chance back!

The Bad: Gpa is honestly pretty low…significantly lower than the average accepted and that’s probably one of the more important factors. Also, Subject Tests are pretty weak so (I forget if you have to send it) but if you do, it would hurt. AP scores are also not great. Also, though ECs are focused, there isn’t much leadership that you have shown.

The good: ECs are decent with a clear focus (maybe too much). Also, are there any extenuating circumstances that directly affected your grades? If so, if you include an explanation, you will get a special consideration which may off set your lower gpa to a degree. Additionally, JHU has a really good ED acceptance rate (around 40% I believe).

What you could do: Senior year, improve your grades for what you send to JHU. Try to gain a leadership position in a favorite activity of yours. In your essays expound your interest for JHU. Also make sure you use an experience to show who you are. You have a lot to choose from, but choose one or two of your favorite experience and delve into your personality and your passion.

That being said, considering JHU’s high ED acceptance rate and your clear interest (which I hope you express in your essay), you may have a chance. But ECs can’t really pick up a very weak gpa unless there really are tough circumstances. Good luck though.

My chance thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1162768-chance-some-ivies-top-schools-chancebacks.html</a></p>

I agree. Your ECs are stunning, but your numbers might just bring you down. REDO THE SAT II BIO!!! Seriously, it seems as though you wish to enter the medical field, and honestly, anything less than a 750 might put you at the bottom of the pack. Play up your circumstances in your essay too and you might have a nice shot.

Chance me back too please.

Your ECs really save your otherwise mediocre (sorry!) science test scores. Definitely make sure your recommender has things he or she can say about you at a personal level (might be tough for the CEO). I think you have great chances for JHU as long as you emphasize your passion as you did in this post.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167721-please-chance-me-top-schools-like-wharton-harvard-i-will-chance-back-asap.html</a></p>

pretty much what everyone else has been saying but your gpa will REALLY HURT you :frowning:
i would try to play up my EC’s as much as possible right now / try to do really well on your SAT’s.

still, ED helps A LOT for JHU, and since you’re applying ED, the acceptance rate is extremely high.

chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165439-please-chance-me-also-can-i-actually-get-into-any-these-aiming-too-high.html</a></p>

You have a great ECs, but your SAT II and GPA are low. Your ACT is average. However, applying ED is a good decision. Try to improve your grades senior year and retake your SAT IIs!

[Chance me back?](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1167774-chance-top-schools-will-chance-back.html)

anyone else have any thoughts if i dont take my exams again? i also won a HUGE leadership competition and i got a scholarship with it

I’d say with your current stats and scores, JH is a low to mid reach. You’re scores are fairly good, and you have some fantastic ECs, but your GPA is definitely gonna weigh you down a bit. I’d say it’s a bit of a crap shoot… All depends on whether or not they want to overlook the GPA in favor of the ECs. GL.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1166769-sats-so-chance-me.html</a></p>

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168613-chances-congressional-page-columbia-ed-will-chance-back.html</a>
chance back!!!

if you apply ED, the acceptance rate is 43% so you’re in, no question. CONGRATULATIONS!

Though your GPA and SAT II scores are low, I think that you have a decent chance given the higher rate of acceptance for early decision applicants to Johns Hopkins. It sounds like you are very involved in your extracurriculars and they stand out as unique. If you are able to write an exceptional essay, it would definitely improve your chances.

You’ve got a pretty good shot based on your passion for medicine (I’m assuming that’s why JHU is at the top of the list), but the GPA and SAT II will bring you down. If you can, retake those on the first date possible, but if you can’t, just know that your essays will make or break your application. Considering you’re applying early, you have a pretty good chance overall.

Chance back?
