Johns Hopkins University Early Decision Forum 2015

Accepted, no BME. Still happy!

@nevergiveupp No, I was rejected. So happy though for you guys, you all deserve it

So how do we withdraw our applications to the other universities? Do we call each admissions office saying “Hey, um I’m sorry but I gotta take my application out because I got into Hopkins?”

@MarriYu It was just a hypothesis, guess not.

Congrats to everyone getting in

@Krishna98 Im so sorry to hear that. Thats JHU’s loss.

I got admitted

Hey guys,
I’m a sophomore in high school right now and am looking into applying to John Hopkins when i am a senior. My SAT scores from about a month ago as a sophomore was a 2000 (750 math 650 writing 600 reading). The reason for taking the SAT was that I am applying to TAMS, which is a program at UNT, which is close to where I live, that allows high school students to bypass their last two years of high school to take college level math and science courses and earn 65 hours of college credit. Their main priority in SAT was the math section, so I put my time into that, which is why my reading and writing aren’t amazing. I’m sure I can get my scores to 2100 to 2200 before I apply. My current rank and GPA in my school are 34/962 and 4.75/5. I also am involved in a variety of extracurriculars such as school and club soccer, math honor society, robotics, and interact volunteer club. I am looking at going into the medical sciences and was wondering my chances of getting into John-Hopkins and if it would be a good fit for me?

@dru123 Dang starting early haha
You’ll do fine, especially since you’re starting so early (schools like to see people who know what they’re doing and actively participating)

@HuangoBango

Got rejected aww :frowning:

i was hoping for at least a deferral

oh well, winter break will be an essay bootcamp

@23penguin I was accepted too and I asked my guidance counselor that question. If you’re sure that you’re going to Hopkins, then you can withdraw your other applications. Supposedly the best way to do it is to email the colleges you’ve applied to and say that you were accepted ED to a college (you don’t have to mention the college name if you think that it’ll ruin your chances in case you ever want to transfer). By emailing, rather than calling, you can get a response and know indefinitely whether they’ve withdrawed your app

Hi, I’m a junior from New Jersey.
Johns Hopkins have been my #1 school since 7th grade when I first went there.
I wanna give you quick stats so that if you are kind enough you can chance me please please please!

Intended Major: Computer Engineering
SAT: 2350 Overall
UW GPA: 3.89
W GPA : 4.7 out of 5.0 (is this very low for weighted ?)
Rank: our school doesn’t rank
AP’s this year: AP English, AP Government, AP World
Already talked to my counselors about next year classes and I’m taking four AP’s:
AP Stats
AP computer science
AP physics
AP macroeconomics

Volunteer: 300+ doing engineering related volunteering and programs through UMD and Rutgers

Clubs: I am enrolled in 9 clubs as of now and have leadership position in 2 of them

Already talked to my teachers and counselors about recommendations and teachers are very nice and caring and my counselor told me she will write the best recommendation she have ever written !

I am doing a research inside and outside of US about computers and people access to it so hopefully that will help.

I’m applying ED so I wanna now if I have any chance anyways. I AM VERY NERVOUS because I feel I get close and closer to my life long dream of JHU.

Please if you see this Chance me and give me some info, any info will help

@eagle2426 You seem like a lovely candidate my opinion is that it is always worth a try. Your stats are quite impressive. My advice and something that many of those who were admitted ED agree upon is that your essay is your chance to speak about yourself and make sure that you are not just writing what the admissions people would like to see make sure that they can really get a view of who you are. Good Luck I wish you the very best. (JHU class of 2020 ED admit)

hi guys I’m applying RD and was about to submit my app but suddenly wanted to ask this… On the essays that worked page many of the essays never mentioned JHU when talking about their interests even when the prompt asks “how will you build upon [your current interests] here” and when double checking mine I saw that I never mentioned JHU either… The commentary on the page often says “we can imagine so and so doing __ here because of her interest in __” but what if the admissions officers see it as 1) I don’t want to come enough and 2) I didn’t answer the question fully? Especially for those of you who were accepted ED, did you mention johns hopkins in your interest essay? Thanks in advance!!

@kcarpenterfan The essays on the JHU website, to my belief, are personal statements! In the writing supplement, I did mention JHU – it shows your interest and that you actually researched about the uni – and I was accepted ED. Best of luck!

To all the other admitted ED students: when do we know which major we were accepted into? I applied Chemistry and I got in ED but how do I know if I got my first choice or my second choice major?

@itsawindyday You don’t “get in” to any major except BME. So you were admitted to Krieger and that’s it for now-- you don’t actually declare a major until sophomore year

@behavneuronerd Ohh I see! Thank you so much!! I was so confused before haha
